A Big Catch Up

I know that I’m way behind on blog posts!

We’ve had a busy few weeks of doing and going, rather than writing about it.

First- just days after Libby’s five month birthday, we took a Sunday afternoon to take Miss Baby to the big pool for the first time!  We (especially I) were much more excited than she was, but I do recall her being too excited to have a good nap before we went to the neighborhood’s summer hot spot.

So, we slathered her up with sunscreen, put her in her swim diaper, tankini, sunglasses, hat, gathered the rest of her gear, put her in her stroller, and two hours later, we were off!  Okay, not quite two hours, but you get the point.

First, I stepped slowly into the pool so I could get used to the water and check out the temperature before putting her in it.  I shouldn’t have worried!  These 95+ degree days have taken their toll on the pool already and the temperature wasn’t bath water yet, but I certainly didn’t have to walk in slowly or anything.  Of course, I’m sure this was good since I was bringing Libby in the pool.

While Libby didn’t love the experience, she seemed intrigued at the very least, so I count it as a success.  She splashed a bit and kicked her legs when her daddy helped her “swim” to mommy!

I plan to try it again on Thursday.

Then last Tuesday, one of our dear friends, Drew, came over from Athens for lunch to meet Libby!  We had a lovely time – and I hope that Drew will visit again.  I definitely let him talk, but I think every time I said something, it was about Libby or another of our baby friends!  (Drew, please come back- I promise to be better next time!)

On Wednesday, Libby had her first visit to Phipps Plaza!

On Thursday, Libby and I watched Miss Ansley Fuller for a couple of hours so her mommy could run a few errands.  I wondered how that would go, but it was just great!  Ansley is a dear sweetie and gave me zero trouble.  And Libby got to enjoy her and her dog, Oz!  Libby DOES love the dogs!

This past weekend was a big time, too.  I spent the night away from Libby for two consecutive nights for the first time!  I had a bachelorette weekend near Cashiers, NC for a friend who is getting hitched in July.  I went up on Thursday night and came back Saturday evening (before Libby’s bedtime).  Michael and Libby went to visit GiGi and Papa in Cedartown since I was going to be gone and it was Father’s Day weekend.  Libby played her little brains out and Michael and his dad were able to squeeze in some golf.

I knew I missed her when I was gone, but didn’t realize just HOW much until I saw her!  I KNOW she grew while I was gone and I admit, when I saw her and loved on her, I cried and cried.

We had a nice Father’s Day together with my parents at the Gordon’s house.  And Michael was appropriately celebrated as a Father – except that I STILL can’t find one of the gifts I got him!  I apparently put it in a safe place, but it is so safe, that I’ve practically turned the house upside down to find it and can’t.

Libby and I also went to church with Marmena and Granddaddy and Libby found a new friend!  Little seven month old Abby Kate was seated in front of us and she and Libby discovered each other during the sermon and had a nice discussion.  Unfortunately, they did not whisper, so Abby Kate’s grandmother took her out until the sermon was over.  Libby managed, but missed her new friend.

(Yes, Michael got a mini football and mini soccer ball for Father’s Day to start teaching Libby about how much she is going to love sports!)

Today, Libby and I visited our friends the Grahams.  Laura  Graham and I became friends through work, but sadly, she doesn’t work at the same place as me anymore, so we don’t see each other nearly as often as we once did.  Probably the fact that she has a baby, Thomas, who is just two weeks older than Libby AND a little boy, Oliver, who will be three in August, might also have just a bit to do with it!  But we had a nice time.  Libby was entertained by sweet Oliver and found Thomas interesting and amusing, as well.  Hopefully we can get together again soon!

In other news, Libby is still teething, but no teeth have broken through yet.  She’s sitting really well unassisted (but I mostly still assist a little as she’s not quite there yet).  She’s officially getting up on her hands and knees or hands and feet (downward facing dog style), but no crawling.  She gets around mostly by rolling and also maneuvering around on her tummy or back.  And if she gets going with rocking back and forth standing in her exersaucer, she can move it an inch or so.  She is getting better with “solids” – now eating (in order of how much she likes them) applesauce, rice cereal, sweet potatoes, carrots and bananas.  Tomorrow I’m going to give her some watermelon!  (I want to start giving her some produce that’s in-season.)

Commissioner remains the funniest dog on the planet.

  1. I had a shirt that we bought for Ryan and H.Richards when it was closing. I "hid" it so well, multiple times in fact, that we went through about 2 years of me not being able to find it at gift time and happening on it some other time and rehiding it!

Libby is too cute! So cute in her swimsuit!

  2. You've certainly had a busy few weeks! We so loved celebrating Michael's first Father's Day with him and everyone. PaPa said it was his best Father's Day EVER!
