Small Blessings

The little things make the biggest blessings. So far I'm keeping my commitment to relax a bit and enjoy my daughter!

It's been a great week. Libby has had a few moments of unhappiness, but come on. Haven't we all? Libby even chose me to bathe her twice this week. That's always Daddy territory unless he's out of town. She had a great class play date at "the big park" on Tuesday and I think the whole class made it. It was so funny to compare this play date with the one last fall where Libby almost completely ignored the class. This time, they had a lot to chat about and they played together a lot. I think it DID help that the rest of the class was ready for the big equipment she preferred already. She used the biggest tube cage thing right in the center to climb up, too! It's tough and that was her first time. And then second, third, fourth, etc. They played for about two hours and people started heading out (including us.) We're hoping to have a lot more get togethers in different spots this summer.

Another small blessing- that wasn't at first - and maybe just depends on how you look at it. Our friend, Mandy, was in a car accident on I-75 when going to work on Tuesday morning. She was hooked up to all kinds of monitors at the hospital the rest of the day because she's pregnant and due at the end of August. Thank goodness Mandy and the baby are doing okay, if bruised and sore. I know busy Mandy doesn't see missing work as a blessing, or a ruined car as a blessing. But the car kept them safe, and I know she needs the rest because she's been working her rear off. I also know they know they're blessed with the good news that everyone was okay. We're just relieved they're okay.

Every night when we put her to bed, Libby names us in her prayers and tells us she loves us with hugs and kisses and has started adding the baby in. However, she is on a kick where she then makes a little grabbing motion at my tummy and a toss to Commissioner and says, "but it's not gonna be Mama's baby, or Daddy's baby or Libby's baby... it's gonna be Commissioner's baby!" And laughs. She's joking around but it's also consistent.

We took Commish for a long walk this morning, planning to end up at the playground and pool only to get our key for the summer (because B had a swim lesson later anyway.) However, when we got the pool, the neighbor with the keys wasn't there yet, but our neighbors down the road were, and they invited us in. Libby started with, "Mama, can I just put my feet in the water?" To, "Mama, can I stand on the first step?" "How about the second?" Then she sat down on the second step, with the water coming up nearly to her chin. She never did go for a full swim since I, too, was in my clothes and NOT venturing beyond putting my legs in. But what the heck? She's little, it's summer, we had no place to be for a while. So I just went with the flow.

And she had another great swim lesson. She even agreed to use goggles for the first time. She loved being able to see under water and Mrs. Mechelle said when she'd go under her eyes would widen as big as saucers. That girl is now practicing in the tub at night!

Today was great, too. We went to a special breakfast at Chick-Fil-A to kick off our errand-running. Errands were fairly painless and Libby picked up a silicone baster brush in the Dollar Spot at Target that I told her I would get her if she was good during our whole trip. (She's always pretty great anyway, but I was letting her walk instead of ride in the cart this time, so it was good extra insurance.) She kept calling it her paintbrush and painting everything in sight different colors. Just so cute! We played a bit outside (okay, Libby played while I had a conference call with work in which I had to actively participate) and had a fun lunch. We even go to see Mandy for just a few minutes to check on her and Libby had a great nap. I also got her finger and toe nails all prepped for our fun this weekend. She chose one hand and one foot to be baby blue and the other hand and foot to be light pink. I painted my toenails gold and she told me that she didn't like them. Well, it's important to be honest, right?

We also had a fun and lovely evening with Daddy. And then Mimi arrived and that was even more fun. If this week is any indication, this summer is going to be practically perfect in every way.

Oh I love my sweet, vivacious, funny, smart little girl!
