One Month/Five Weeks

First, Happy Birthday to Mema today! It's been so nice having them in Rome. We've seen them more in the last two months than probably the last two years. Yay!

Second, Matthew, or "Math" as we sometimes refer to him, thanks to Libby, ventured out to his first restaurant dinner a week ago today - to our favorite Mexican Friday night spot. He was a perfect child, sleeping through nearly the whole thing. We're hoping for similar results tonight. He also attended his first party on Saturday. Ryan Arnold turned 4 and had a superhero birthday party. I joked that Matthew attended as Aaron Murray, UGA's superhero quarterback, who only proved his status once again in the game later in the day. Unfortunately, we still lost and Math got pretty fussy about it, but we all realized that it's just football. He sure looked like a great fan!

He was great and mostly slept through the party, too. So, I got to hang a bit with John Luke!

Libby and Math are really starting to have more fun together. She loves showing him his toys and books and he's starting to show interest. I can't wait to see their fun years ahead!

The Krafts also came to visit last Sunday, on Matthew's one month birthday! Millie and Sarah got to meet his sweet self for the first time.

The day AFTER his one month birthday, he had his doctor's appointment and we got his latest stats: 9 lbs., 13 oz. (50%); 22 1/2 in. (75-90%); 37 cm. head (25%.) So far his percentiles are tracking about like Libby's! He just began life about 1 lb. ahead. Sadly, he had to have his second HepB vaccine and he did NOT like it. He personally demonstrated my positive response when they asked about whether he had a "good, healthy cry."

Later this week, he has enjoyed demonstrating this cry more frequently and at night. Michael was out of town mot of the week, so thank goodness Gigi was here to help me. And thank you to Mandy who reminded me that this was likely a "wonder week" period, when they reach milestones. Well, he has indeed reached the ones mentioned when I looked this up. We apparently get to look forward to another "wonder week" when Mimi's here in a couple of weeks. (Wonder week translates to "terror week in which I don't recognize my normally charming baby.") As of last night though, he seems to mostly be over the real touch stuff and back to the regular fussy stuff.

Math also moved from his cradle in our room into his crib this week. And he's outgrown his newborn clothes. And Libby's growth spurting, too! She's up to 37.5 inches according to Gigi's calculations this week. They just grow up so fast!

So, I didn't get quite as many photos from the week, but some are below. I got to dance with my babies after dinner last night, which was so nice and great fun, just like we've done with Libby off and on for years. I was dancing to some of my favorite jazz/standards with Matthew and keeping him from fussing while Daddy gave Libby a bath and they lyrics to some made me nearly cry while I was holding my baby boy as I applied them to him. "La Vie en Rose" jumps to mind.  Cherished moment. Libby held him on his one month birthday for the first time, too!

And Libby made this adorable placemat at school for Thanksgiving! She had a feast in class on Thursday with all the three year-olds. We sent cornbread muffins that she helped me make and juice boxes. You know, just like the pilgrims!

Also, Stephanie Jones came to visit us and meet Matthew, but I forgot to get any photos!

This weekend, we get to have a jump start on Christmas by decorating the house, because otherwise we won't have a chance this year! Next Sunday is Matthew's baptism too, so it will be nice for everyone to see the house all decorated.
