Well, after that high school graduation, we knew the day would arrive faster than we'd planned, but yes, Millie is officially a Georgia dawg!
I was honored to have the opportunity to help more her in to UGA last weekend. She got into a great dorm, on a lower floor, and near the stairwell, so while move-in at 4 p.m. in Athens, Ga. in early August was as hot and humid as you could imagine (100 degrees on the thermometer that day), it wasn't as bad as it *could have been. She got to move in with relatively few others around too, because she's a Red Coat, so that was a big help!
We had to get her checked into Red Coats first. For some reason, she didn't want me taking photos in line... I mean, maybe no other parents were around at all except for us, but this generation is the "selfie" generation, isn't it?!
But Millie was more than happy to pose once she got her official uniform!
While we arrived very early, we got to spend, let's just call it "extra time enjoying each other's company and the wonders of Athens," while we waited for move-in time. We visited downtown, and I enjoyed one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had. Uncle John was horrified when I ate the pickled okra on top.
We also visited Chick-fil-A, the UGA bookstore (where I scoped out books required for my favorite English professor's class), the Tate Student Center and explored the State Botanical Gardens (which I really was excited to share with master gardener, Aunt Toni). It would have maybe been a bit nicer had it been a little cooler. Or less humid. Or both. We ate at Taqueria Tsunami and Clocked!
Millie's roommate had already moved in, so we didn't have to worry about taking too much space-- we just took what was left! The room looks great, and I have to say, we unpacked that sucker like total pros.
The memories of my time at UGA, and so many special friends, came flooding back. I am so excited for Millie's journey here!
She's already made the UGA Bands Facebook page multiple times! I think her first crazy busy semester is off to a great start!
On Saturday night, I got to hang out with Drew, and when I walked into his house, what was on TV? "Friends!" It was like I time-traveled. It was great to catch up and also to eat at Mama's Boy on Sunday morning.
We can't wait to see Millie perform at her first UGA football game (and at the Dawg Walk)! She even earned her very own position in the band - no spot-sharing for her! Millie was very impressed with the first two days of fun (that Saturday-Sunday) of Red Coats, and I think it really did hit her about what might be in store during the next four years during that time.
Go Dawgs, Go Millie! (And good luck washing all those towels!) We love you!
