We only made it to one previous practice due to circumstances this fall, but we listened to the CD a lot at home, and even Matthew sang along with nearly the entire song from our pew. The children's choir will sing again in a few weeks and we look forward to hopefully making it for a few more practices next time... but we ARE already listening to the hymns.
Sarah and Luca even got to come today to join us and hear here. It was a downpour as Tropical Storm (formerly Hurricane) Nate made its way through town, but we had a lovely service indoors just the same. Luca was SO good during the service, even after getting drenched by the storm. And Matthew had a little too much fun having him in our pew, too.
We can't wait for him to come again! And yes, I asked Michael to snap a few photos of me with him since somehow I usually don't get pics with him unless I'm looking scuzzy!
The whole weekend was quite an event, though.
On Friday night, we enjoyed an adult-night-out at Red Sky for Les Martin's 47th birthday! The dueling pianos were a ton of fun, with a number of selections by Elton John. And one of our group members, Kristen, performed "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" as a lip-sync number
right up on the stage! The kids also had a fun movie night with Katie back at home and introduced her to "The Million Dollar Duck."
Have I talked about how we love Katie?! Her birthday was at the end of September while we were on Fall Break and out of town, so we surprised her with some donut treats with candles and sang "Happy Birthday" before her big day.
On Saturday morning, it was up and off to Oktoberfest at our church! Libby and Matthew loved the petting zoo, and Matthew kept going on and on in such a sweet voice talking about the soft baby animals. And boy were those animals well-trained, well-kept and well-groomed.
The kids had friends who came to meet up with us, too -- including GRI-FFUN!
There was plenty of "jumpy" time, plus food, the great Oompah band, face painting and cookie decorating.
And we stood in line for a LONG time while the kids played nearby awaiting our balloon art, but the balloon artist was hands-down the most amazing I've ever seen. We got simple designs to help speed up the time, but he also made an Optimum Prime and Hercules!
Here's "a dachshund" as requested by Libby, and "Pluto" as requested by Matthew! Matthew thought it was so impressive, that he wouldn't even hold it, for fear of it popping. But they were still "alive" as of Monday.
On Saturday night, they got MORE play time with with the Pearsons and Doyles, plus pizza, while Lindsi, Nadine and I traded crock-pot meals and did all the prep work! They guys got to play with the kids/watch football/cheer us on. Michael Doyle gets extra points for allowing the kids to handcuff him... and then forget about the fact that he was hiding and they were supposed to be finding him!
By Sunday, we were happy to get back to church, as you saw above, and Michael and the kids even went back again Sunday afternoon to take Commissioner to be blessed at "Blessing of the Pets," by our new pastor!
What a weekend.
