The kids were out of school for election day today. I had no campaign work or voting opportunity, so when I realized this calendar item for today... I figured out just what to do.
This year has been just crazy for work. You'd think we were in-cycle in a campaign, and I guess one job I work on IS in cycle, and now it will really kick into gear, but my regular day (and night) job has been in high gear since... 2014, and this year has been high gear on steroids.
So, I found a window (or made one), and I took the day off!
Michael is working in Athens this week, the kids haven't really been to see Millie at UGA and none of us had been to her apartment this year, so we decided to run a little day trip over to the "classic city."
We didn't rush this morning, so when Mom arrived, we hopped in the car and arrive just in time for lunch downtown. We got to pick up Millie from where she was hanging out between classes and met Michael for a bite to eat at Taqueria Tsunami.
We didn't get many photos because we were too busy zipping from place to pace, eating good food, and just hanging out together.
And no, they won't remember the trip for the rest of their lives. But hopefully, they'll remember the good stuff. And the times that Mommy wasn't so overwhelmed. I love them with everything -- on steroids! I just hope they know it deep down to their bones and their soul, and right there on the surface, too.
So we played downtown, and on our way to get cookies for a treat... we stopped in an outdoors store. Mom found a cute UGA shirt, which meant we skipped the book store later on, and the kids found a puppy named Rio. They loved playing with this cute pup, and yes, it was probably the highlight of their day. Hey, works for me! They're having fun? I'm happy.
Then, of course, they also enjoyed the ice cream and cookies.
Matthew was not at all interested in photos.
Then, we went off to see Millie's apartment! I can't beleive our little Millie is so grown up. And yet, I've rarely encountered a more mature, centered and focused on "the right things" college-aged college student.
No inside photos, but we all enjoyed meeting her other roommates. One of them is even in Gamma Sig!
Matthew was just a little flirty with the girls. Before we headed out, we dropped Millie off at her class (the ultimate treat when you're a college kid), and my kiddos got more of a tour of campus.
Mimi was so funny and kept pointing out "college kids." Matthew and Libby were impressed by the number of them around between classes. It IS a busy campus.
Then we had two more quick stops... before our two hour drive home! Yes, Jittery Joe's was required.
We even got to see Daddy one more time later in the day before we left town! We had to drop him off some fruit. (True story.)
The rain held off until we got home, thankfully. The kids told me that they had a fun time seeing everyone and on our trip. Plus, they slept on the way home, so hopefully that will help them get re-regulated from the time change.
