All I can really say is that it was my best Christmas ever and Michael's, too.
While Libby will never remember it, we have a great deal of photographic evidence of this special occasion. Libby is just plain magical and so was our weekend.
While we've been listening to Christmas music non-stop since Thanksgiving, I told Libby that even though we've been listening to many songs about snow, it was not likely that we'd actually have a white Christmas. Of course, Michael and I have a history of dealing with weather-related issues in our relationship (think back to our engagement party during the ice storm of '05 where the hosts fortunately had a mini-kitchen powered by a generator, a zillion candles and many of the guests were unable to travel to the party and rain for any pre-planned outdoor event for at least the first two years we dated). And of course, last year it snowed the night before and on the day that Libby arrived to meet us! Our parents had trouble getting back to their houses after being with us at the hospital and I recall altering our own route home slightly, as well.
So, it snowed on the day Libby was born - why wouldn't her first Christmas be white, too?!
As the first flurries drifted in, we got up and going on a calm, cold Christmas morning. Libby slept in until 8 a.m. (a trend in the days leading up to Christmas- so nice.) She even took her sweet time while she had her bottle and wasn't that interested in leaving her bedroom, especially since Commissioner there was with us dressed in her Christmas best, too. However, WE were very excited to get the rest of the festivities underway.
Santa was very good to Miss B! While she had a great new red wagon waiting on her, it was only her third favorite gift. Number one was her new sippy cup (even with nothing in it) and number two was her new phone (from Mommy and Daddy). After we did our immediate family gifts and stockings, it was time for Libby's nap.
While she rested, the rest of us got ready and her grandparents arrived!
What a treat for Libby when she got up again. Her very favorite people! And more gifts!
She got a rocking horse that makes real horse sounds, a foam play mat for her playroom, foam blocks, new art for her bathroom, movies, books, clothes, music, her own Christmas decorations and ornaments and more! She wasn't so much in to ripping open the paper this year, but sort of liked some of the bags. By this point - AND during her second nap, the snow started really coming down. We actually had to wake her up a little after 6 p.m. so she could eventually go to bed for the night!
Papa also received a special gift from GiGi!
While she napped, we enjoyed some SNL Christmas highlights and Michael and his dad built Libby a snowman in the back yard!
Libby didn't get out and play in it too much since there was so much else going on, but we did get a few photos!
We had a delicious Christmas dinner of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, green beans and rolls, which will be our new tradition going forward! Marmena also shared with us a special bottle of champagne that was so tasty!
More play time with B. She went to bed with assistance from Granddaddy and me while the others cleaned up (YEAH- I'm not a fan of food clean-up).
We watched "It's a Wonderful Life" and hit the sack.
Oh, and the family received a gift to light up Miss B's new playroom, which GiGi installed today!
On Sunday, we went to visit Mema and Boobus (my grandparents) at Aunt Toni & Uncle John's house! We did the gift exchange and got a ton of great gifts. However. I wanted to get this post up and going! I have a list of stuff to do a mile long.
Libby's First New Year's up next!
