Pre-Thanksgiving Fun

I got to visit Libby's class for Thanksgiving "brunch" at her school, as noted in the last blog.

Matthew also had a little Thanksgiving treat consisting of pizza and donuts at his school before the break, too! I love how they sit IN the table. And how Matthew managed to keep his shirt on, while others... may have struggled a bit more.

Over the weekend, Libby got to have a big night out with Gigi & Papa! She got to stay at the Ritz (I've never stayed at the Ritz...), dine, and enjoy a large brunch there. She was just two stories from the top (on the 23rd floor) and was delighted with her views! She got to watch "Inside Out" on the TV again, take a lovely shower there and even had rose petals on her table at dinner!

Of course, so much luxury can wear a girl out!

The "purpose" of the trip was to have some fun time together and to go see the Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts' performance of "Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer." You can watch the trailer here. But before that, and after their fancy brunch at the Ritz, Libby accompanied Gigi and Papa to Lenox to ride elevators, appreciate decorations, and enjoy a massage chair at Brookstone!

The show looks fantastic and received rave reviews from our gang. Gigi said Libby was rapt. Papa described it as the best performance he's seen that's designed for children. Pretty glowing reviews! I'm a bit jealous - but if they put this one one every year, maybe we'll have to go again in the future with Matthew.

Libby had so much fun that she couldn't make it the whole way home. So she put in just enough of a power nap to put on her pj's and her party face for an "almost slumber party" that night at a friend and neighbor's house!

The event was from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. and what fun was had by all! Manicures, pizza, face-painting, take-home tote-bag decorating, a viewing of "Despicable Me 2" and all-around fun girl stuff.

Michael and Matthew had a boys' day at home and around the area. And I have no photos of that!

So I guess we'll just catch up on what I got to do, and that was to celebrate Millie's early acceptance to UGA!!! We found out the awesome news on Friday afternoon when Millie called me with the good news. I was fortunately in the car by myself, because the screaming that erupted would have been inappropriate for the workplace. Screaming was followed by tears of joy.

Millie has worked so hard for this true achievement, and we could not be more proud of her.

We'd gotten tickets to the UGA v. Georgia Southern game on Saturday before the season even started, so we had lots of time to look forward to this day. But it was made MUCH better knowing that Millie will spend the next four years in the Classic City. And she has some great plans, including joining one of the finest traditions in the land: the Redcoat Marching Band!

The game was late, but Mom, Millie, Aunt Toni and I wanted to get there and get our fun on, so we left around 9:30 a.m. and arrived just after 11 a.m. Made good time! And Millie got to see the apartment we lived in downtown during our senior year, because we were able to find a free space behind it! Already a couple of wins for the day.

Next win was introducing Millie to a favorite spot of mine that only came around after graduation, but has become a game day tradition for us: Walker's Pub and Coffee.

We had a walking tour of downtown, and I also got to introduce her and Aunt Toni to another perennial favorite for all: Last Resort Bar & Grill. Ahh. Millie and Aunt Toni both loved it (really never a worry there) and while Millie had some questions about how she would afford to enjoy the wonders of the local cuisine as a poor college student, she has begun her own list of delectable restaurants to try. The good news is that her mother's list is probably just as long. There are just SO many excuses to visit Athens. But dang if Millie isn't a great one for the next four years!

We also visited a few shops and other food and beverage establishments, including a cheap pitcher at Little Italy! Unfortunately, no one we knew seemed to be tailgating for this game, after the disappointing season and late game time. But we did fill the day. I got to point out the chapel, the Demosthenian Society's house (on behalf of dad), the library, history building, business school, administration buildings, law school and the great Park Hall (English), so when Millie starts next August hopefully she'll at least recognize a few spots. (Yes, she will also have orientation.)

I also filled her in on how much fun the Gym Dogs meets are. Ahh, happy memories there, too. Millie also got to meet a current Red Coat member who will be back next year and answered lots of questions for us, and we did a quick swing through the book store before going to the Dawg Walk to cheer on the team as they enter the stadium. I'd never actually participated in this tradition before, so that was kinda neat.

And on the way in the gate, we spotted Que, who was to be officially "collared" as UGA X before the game. The Seiler family of Savannah, who have owned all of the UGAs also goes back with Millie's family. Millie's dad, Uncle John, and Swann Seiler used to work together in Savannah. And Swann Seiler was handling Que at this particular moment! She was so excited to see Millie and Aunt Toni, and proud that Uncle John's girl would be going to GEORGIA (instead of his Tech.)

Once in the gate, we bumped right into Hairy Dawg!

We also ran into our cousin Barry, and his family just before the game. And Millie spotted a friend in the Red Coats who in turn gave her a wave, on the way in the stadium.

Before heading up to "the penthouse" seats (read: 600 section) Millie and I also ran down to the hedges to grab our shakers.

We saw all of the pregame warm-ups and activities, and the collar ceremony for our new UGA X.

It was also Senior Night. The Red Coats put on a great Stevie Wonder show at half-time, and the team put on a... game. We won. In overtime. Against Georgia Southern.

Gena Conrad made the LONG trek over from her seat to congratulate Millie, and the two guys behind us put on quite a show themselves. Hilarious and highly entertaining running game commentary. It may have annoyed some, but we were just amused.

It was cold, but not TOO cold, and we had a GREAT night. We look forward to many more with our newest member of the Bulldawg Nation!

Yesterday, I napped!
