I hope the groundhog's prediction of an early Spring was right.
It's been awhile since my last real post - so get ready for a long one.
And after a great, and semi-selfish week the week before, which included a pedicure for Lindsi's birthday, viewings of "The Black Swan," and "The King's Speech,"and dinner with some of my sorority sisters, I have had kind of a long week this past week.
Miss B remains the best! A healthy, happy, independent-except-when-she's'-"needing"-her-Mommy girl. A couple of my best friends with whom I happen to work performed their last days' duties with my office on Friday. They are moving on to bigger and better things and I wish them the very best. One is moving out of town and the other is leaving because she moved TO town. So I'm most pleased that we'll still be seeing plenty of Miss Sheridan! We had a little office send-off on Thursday night which was good for my soul (and I think theirs, too.)
On Wednesday, Libby came to the office with me to wish them well and as we arrived back at home my mom called to tell me that great-grandmother (yes, Libby was lucky enough to have a great-great-grandmother for a little while) had died. Grammie was one of the extremely tough women of my family (who I have zero chance of living up to) and was the mother to my wonderful, loving, hard-working and worrying granddaddy, Boobus. Marmena, Libby and I had been planning a surprise visit to Savannah to see my grandparents this weekend. With this news, Marmena and Granddaddy represented us at the funeral. With the solemnity of the occasion and full-ness of their house, it just didn't seem like the brightest idea to bring Libby. Also, Michael had been out of town all week and currently is working seven days a week for his job, so my going alone wasn't really an option, either.
Also on Wednesday, our friends The Beavers had their baby - a little boy named Yorke Conrad. This was the second child (Charlotte is now a big sister) and second difficult delivery. Thankfully (and without going into all the details) Yorke is doing well, but remains in the NICU (so please say some extra prayers).
Last night I learned that another friend lost her baby at 16 weeks pregnant. That sort of news takes a whole new meaning after you're a mother.
So there have been a lot of emotions in play this week with an already-emotional personality. Also the continued bad weather has been unpleasant. Poor Michael and Libby have seen more than a few tears shed this weekend - and they haven't only been from the one-year-old.
In other news, I got a short hair cut on Thursday completely different than anything I've had before. We'll see how it works out. Currently it looks like I'm going to have to be doing a lot of straightening for awhile. It does look very cute when it's straight.
We did get out a bit yesterday and today. Libby was a huge mess since the ground was still so wet yesterday and was tossed immediately into the tub upon getting back home from the neighborhood playground. She also continues her yoga practice. Sometimes when she does crawl, Libby will stop and stick one leg out straight behind her and lift it up for a few seconds and then do the other leg. Obviously it's cute. And funny.
She's also getting good at pointing to various body parts. She points to her head, ears, feet and toes. She can also show you where shoes or a hat go. And if you ask her, "Where is Libby's nose?" She reaches for yours.
I just finished "The Lords of Discipline" by Pat Conroy today. I'm currently on a Conroy kick because of book club and just adore his older work. If you haven't read any of his older fiction, you ought to give it a whirl. I'm also listening to "The Great Gatsby" on CD. I've never read it (gasp!) so I decided to make my time in the car a bit more productive. I think it's got to be good for Libby, too. It's not the same as reading to her while she sits in your lap, but she had to listen to books on CD while she was in the womb, so why not now?
Now I get to start "Watership Down" for book club on the 15th. (I'd better find a lot of time to read this week!)
Oh- and I got Libby "House Mouse, Senate Mouse" (a cute story, a la "I'm Just a Bill" of Schoolhouse Rock fame) with great illustrations for her first birthday. I expected zero reaction at this point, but Libby honestly seemed to truly enjoy the story as I read it (I know I do) - and she loved the pictures, too!
Oh this week I made some tasty treats, too! Slow-cooker black bean soup (I add some diced tomatoes and sour cream as a garnish- made this for myself since Michael was out of town), Pioneer Woman's salsa and slow-cooker buffalo chicken sandwiches for the Super Bowl tonight. Tomorrow will be a lovely dinner of scallops in angel hair pasta.
Tomorrow is a new day and a new week. Positive, Positive, Positive!
