The Last Week

Has been busy!  It's been fun.  It's had down moments but mostly up moments.

So how is that different than every week?  Overall, it's not.  But those little details are what make each minute, each day, each week, so precious.  It's easy to get caught up in the over-arching doom and gloom scenarios in the news and easy to let the truly difficult details of the lives of our friends or family members to get us down.  But we can pray for those things and we are given so many reminders of how good God is to us if we open our hearts, open our eyes and ears and accept the many big and small blessings He gives to us.  And we can pray our thanks for those things, too.  What a gift to be able to have our own personal chat with the Lord any time we are called to do so.  How neat that he ALWAYS answers our call, no matter what other projects he has going on at the time.

That is just my thought going into this post, but I don't have a great segue to getting to the details of our week.  So here's a video of Libby being "wild as a B."

Libby, Commissioner and I went to Rome early in the week for a couple of days, accompanied by my computer and work stuff so that I could work from there.  But Michael had to be in Albany for work, so we figured we'd get a little mid-week getaway.

Marmena and Granddiddy took great care of us as we ate at yummy Blue Fin and at Marmena's gourmet kitchen.  We also got to jet by Granddiddy's office and visit the pool, too.  But Libby was kind of tired the whole time and she had some long naps, so we did a lot of playing at the house.  OF course, it's more exciting than our house since she's here all the time anyway and Marmena has fun things like Libby-sized shopping carts!  Also, Granddiddy took her on a great wagon ride and lots of bubbles were blown for her entertainment, as well.

We had to get back a little early on Wednesday to get to her swimming lesson and greet Daddy when he got home!

On Thursday, MKP, the little girl from across the street (who's actually nine, not eight) came to play for the morning and then Daddy got home from work a little early!  MKP also brought Libby a couple of new "Biscuit" (the dog) books and a bunch of bath toys in a great bucket as well as a new stuffed bear!  MKP also visited on Monday while GiGi was here.  Sadly, MKP is out of town this week, so we won't get to see her, but we did get to say "good bye" on Friday evening.

Friday saw Marmena watching Libby and Aunt Toni and Millie came for a visit, too! (And Aunt Toni brought us a vegetable bounty from her garden!)  We grilled the okra yesterday and Libby requested some as I was having some again with dinner tonight.  I know she likes it fried, but this was a little different... but she ate it up and asked for more!  Have I mentioned that I find her quite amazing?

Yesterday we played and she played with Daddy a ton and then the Arnold's came over for a cookout on our fabulous new grill.  They own the same one themselves, so we were hoping Nick could give us some great pointers.  The burgers turned out great and so did the S'more Brownie dessert!

And the kiddos provided after-dinner entertainment as you'll see in the videos below.  Please excuse the slight shaking in the first one; I was trying not to laugh out loud while I was holding the camera.

Now it's off to get ready for the show that has become my favorite of the summer, Next Food Network Star!  It was a little rocky at first, as I'm not a huge reality show fan, but as the contestants have gotten better and better and the guest chefs arrive from week to week, it's been so much fun to watch and discuss with Marmena and GiGi (as they are watching, too)!  I can tell you though, that as much as I LOVE food, and enjoy making food quite a bit, I am in no way ready to audition.  Instead, I'll sit here, eating my brownie s'more, and critique their work (and wish that I could taste it myself!)

Oh- also, it's SHARK WEEK on Discovery Channel!!!

In case you didn't know, I do scuba dive, I have been to Marine Biology camp (receiving actual high school science credit for it), I have dissected a shark at said camp, am obsessed with Eugenie Clark and Shark Week is a very important tradition for me each August!
