This month has just been super busy! From the
minute I take Libby to school to the minute I pick her up, I miss her, but I'm
also in a dead sprint.
Now, if I could just skip planning and making meals
(or shopping for the food and cleaning them up), cleaning the house (or myself
and/or child) and working at the job that actually pays me, I could blog just
about full-time!
That said- I have managed to find time to do some
fun things - like go to the UGA v. Vandy game last weekend in Athens and spend
the night there, spend time with my parents for dad's birthday last Sunday when
we also picked Libby up (she did not go to the 7:45 p.m. game), attend book
club on Tuesday, take Libby to the fair for the first time, and go to dinner
and to see "War Horse" (the play, not the movie) at the Fox with
Michael for our anniversary.
So let's take it from the last post. Libby was high
on fried okra the week of Sept. 17, because Michael was out of town (oh- that
severely limits my blogging time) and I had promised her that I'd make fried
okra and black-eyed peas as a special treat because we both like them and
Michael doesn't. FYI- fried okra is something I’ve never actually made myself
and have no plans to make on a regular basis. Libby and I do love it though and
Libby just couldn't get enough. Then, when we ran out (quickly, might add!) she
went to Mimi and Diddy's for the weekend while we were in Athens and continued
the okra-fest at her favorite Rome spot, "Pick-O-Deli."
She also got to eat some homemade lasagna on Friday
night for dinner in Rome and when offered it for another meal later, she
responded, oh so graciously with, "I already had that last night."
That does about sum her up. If she's big on it, leftovers are great, but for
the most part she doesn't want things that many times over- even the same kind
of cookie. So I’ve learned that small batches are best and the freezer is a
wonderful friend!
Also last weekend, Libby got a big kick out of my
mom singing in the choir at their church and as mom came back to sit with her
and Diddy after the anthem, Libby ran up the aisle to greet her! Too sweet.
Mimi and Diddy took her to feed the ducks in Cave
Spring and happened upon a BBQ fest in town with lots of activities for kids.
She took on the giant slide and loved it! And Diddy even took her out to Berry College at dusk to see the deer! And Mimi made her "strawberry dots." (They're strawberry greek yogurt dotted out onto waxed paper and frozen- Ahh Pinterest!)
While she partied with the grandparents, we got to
visit friends and hang out in one of my favorite spots, Athens! We happened
upon several friends throughout the day, ate yum-o food from Little Italy (they
have GREAT fresh bread for their subs!) on the chapel steps, tailgated with
friends, caught up with others (Dill, Tate) at our new favorite pre-game bar,
Walkers Pub (now that Molly O’Shea’s is closed- our fave back when I was in
college), and hang out at Little Italy again while catching up with Mandy &
Nick, Kristi, Neil and Kristi’s sis, Laura, and Drew & Ben! In fact, we
were supposed to go to a more official reception on campus, but were having too
good a time with Drew and Ben to leave them until we absolutely had to. We saw
the Conrads at the game and then stayed with Amanda and James! We also got to
have brunch at one of my favorite spots, The Last Resort, with Amanda, James,
Drew and Ben on Sunday morning before heading to Rome to pick up Miss B and
have my Dad’s birthday celebration.
That celebration included delicious steaks, an
amazing French potato dish and rum cake, among other delights. And mom sent
about half the cake home with us. Kind of a problem for me this week, seeing as
how I may or may not have nibbled about half of that away the very next day!
Over the last two weeks I also caught Libby
repeating over and over again, “L-B-B-Y,” in a singsong voice a whole bunch of
times. I told her how impressed I was with her spelling, but we also talked
more about spelling her name again and I reminded her of the “I” that’s sort of
crucial, but I’m still pretty darn impressed! Of course, this is another thing
that I’ve known that she knows, but she just wasn’t forthcoming with saying it
out loud. School is awesome!
And in case you didn’t know, if she determines that
there is something she’d like to do or there is fun to be had, “I have time” is
her mantra. You know, in response to my, “I’m sorry Libby, but we just don’t
have time for xxx.” She totally pre-empts me with, “I have time!” now.
She must have missed us a little bit last week,
because she told me this week that she didn't want me to go to book club,
"I want Mama to tay hee-ah." Okay, that made it a little tough to go,
but I went anyway and she and her Daddy had a grand time, as always.
Plus, on Wednesdays I pretty much get to spend the
whole day with her and I knew her Daddy and I had something special planned: a
trip to the fair!
We didn't count on the fact that there were
virtually zero rides that we could all ride together, but Libby was a brave
little champ and did several all on her own!
And we both got to ride the carousel with her!
Despite her fears last May at the zoo when I
wouldn't actually ride one of the carousel animals, she got over them this time
and loved that they were "just like Mary Poppins!" She wanted to ride
many more rides, but we were boring parents and put a limit on how many she
could ride this time: when we were out of tickets, we were done. We visited the
animals though and she loved the ducklings the best, "I want to get in
there" was her wish (but it was not to be fulfilled.) She also enjoyed the
miniature horses and watching the line dancers perform. Of course, dinner at
her favorite Mexican restaurant on the way home was likely the highlight of the
day, but we all really did have a fun time. Next year, we know how to plan a
little better and what to expect!
On Thursday, she got to go straight to Mimi’s house
after school so that she could get some extra time in with visiting her
great-grandparents, Mema & Boobus! (I’ll do a separate post all about that
visit/this weekend soon.)
Meanwhile, while I miss her just about the second I
put her to bed. But it’s also one of our favorite times of day. We love to
listen to her chat with herself and her stuffed animals. Sometimes we hear her
jabbering and jumping but sometimes she tells her animals that they need to
"doh to time-OUT." Boy you know that’s trouble. And lately a few
times her precious “nannie” has gotten tossed only for her to regret that move
a second later. That’s when we get the call to rescue the blanket. After a
couple of frightening instances like that, she seems to have decided that
tossing her blanket isn’t the best plan for her happiness.
