Great-Grandparents, that is.
As I mentioned in the last post, Libby got to go
straight to Rome after school on Thursday since my mom keeps her on Fridays
anyway, Michael and I had show to attend and my grandparents were up for a
visit. She told Michael that she was looking forward to their visit, “and we’ll have a crazy, crazy time!”
Thursday night was apparently a great visit for
them and Friday included ANOTHER trip to Pick-O-Deli to eat fried okra, green
beans and black-eyed peas. She really took to Mema and Boobus and would inquire
as to where they were going if either one left the room.
While she had her Rome time, Michael and I had
another anniversary dinner and trip to see “War Horse” at the Fox Theater! I
have wanted to see this play ever since I first heard about it, though I didn’t
realize that it was based on a children’s novel (now I want to read that, too).
I didn’t see the Spielberg movie when it came out, I think mainly because I had
a baby, but I’d love to see it now to compare with the play. But I’m so glad I
got to experience the play first now anyway. Michael and I were so impressed.
Now, neither of us has seen “The Lion King” musical, but that’s on my list of
course and even more so now. We really couldn’t get over how truly life-like
the horses – and other animals, like the funny goose – were in this show.
Puppets definitely aren’t just for kids! Michael noticed just how exhausting
and physically taxing it is was for the actor/puppeteers when they came out for
the final bow, dripping with sweat. Of course, people actually RODE on the
animals that these folks were animating and alone weighing in around 100 lbs. Some
puppeteers were underneath the animals, some next to them and some behind, but
we barely noticed them at all within just a few minutes of their initial
appearances. Just fantastic with the acting, costumes, set, and a great story,
too!
On Friday night, we met Libby and the family at
cousin Millie’s football game. No, Millie’s a lacrosse expert and doesn’t play
football – but she IS in the marching band for her school so we came to see her
perform. They practice constantly it seems and it was great to see her hard
work pay off (even if she was tough to keep up with on the field sometimes.)
Libby got into the spirit of things with her UGA cheerleader outfit (same
school colors!) and watching the cheerleaders at the game. We had front-row
seats and she enjoyed the space! Jumping, dancing with some fancy footwork and
clearly trying to figure out how to do back-flips. Her cousin, Savannah, is a
cheerleader at her high school in Greenville, so we need to figure out a way
for Libby to check that out sometime, too! The game was fun, Libby was up way
past her bedtime and still a delight, and it also confirmed that we need to
enroll her in gymnastics again this Fall. This time though, it will be just
her, her classmates and the teacher – no Mommy! Ugh- not fair.
On Saturday we headed back to Rome for more family time. Libby got to do more play-doh and silly putty time with her cousins and great-grandparents. She loved it and her cousins are both very talented with the "silly putty arts!" Perhaps careers in sculpture are in order?! Or maybe new hobbies!
