Week Recap

We had a very nice, if uneventful (as in no trips or "must do" places to go), week at home. Libby and I are both grateful that it was fairly uneventful, as she has been exhausted and hungry (believe she's having, or getting ready to have, another growth spurt.) Poor little thing just can't help herself sometimes when the smallest thing hasn't gone her way at the right moment. Complete meltdowns at least once a day. While frustrating at times for me (and no doubt for her) my heart just goes out to her and her big, tear-filled eyes. I sent her back to rest after her nap one day and didn't let her get up after an only two-hour nap another.

To Libby's delight, Gigi spent the night on Monday so that she could paint the baby's room on Tuesday. While Gigi prepped the room for painting, I was hoping to keep Libby out of her way, so called her to come play in my room while I dressed that morning. Libby informed me, "No, Mama, I'm just going to hang here with Gigi." Ha- well she did and she wasn't in the way. I did get her out shortly after to take her for a haircut and to run some errands since it was going to be raining off and on most of the day, anyway. She was great about the cut, as she and I had previously negotiated the terms: the hairdresser would cut the back, only; Mimi remains in charge of her bangs for now.

That evening, Michael had a work function and a tennis match, and I had book club, so Sarah came over to babysit and spend the night! Sarah came with a wooden, bendy snake, that Libby loved, but then hid from her Daddy and me! Sarah also brought her a "hatching egg" dinosaur. It was promptly immersed in water in order to hatch, but upon waking, Libby was excited to check out the status after also getting to wake up Sarah. Alas, the dino had not yet emerged. Sarah knew just how to help the little guy along though, and in no time, we had a dino. Libby fulfilled her agenda with Sarah on Tuesday night - wild playing and tent-building (and knocking down!) Oh, and Libby flopped down on her side, with her head propped on her elbow and requested for Sarah to, "Tell me about life." Apparently, Sarah quizzed her on some multiplication too, and Libby aced the test. What a nut!

Of course, when the blankets normally located on the back of the sofa weren't there on Wednesday morning (but still in the dining/play room), Libby had a near meltdown. Thank goodness I was there to get her a blankie for snuggling with her milk and watching her morning bit of movie double-quick!

I didn't have a lot of errands to do or work that morning (it was an almost eerily quiet week), but I made up a few things so that Sarah and Libby could have some more time together. (Hey, I can always find something- such as a trip to the grocery store and getting Commissioner's nails clipped.) Sarah and Libby had a great time at the neighborhood playground, frolicking, climbing and making various meals out of red clay mud and pieces of leaves, twigs, etc. I love how creative Libby is becoming these days! I think three is my favorite!  :)

That afternoon, Libby also helped me with some handy projects: hanging the window blinds back up now that Gigi had painted the trim on the new windows in the baby's room and bathroom. She was a great big helper and so patient with me, since, as always, these things take more time than you plan. She also entertained herself with trying on my shoes, including this time, my Teva flip-flops. "Mama, look at 'dis. I look so stylish!," she proclaimed.

Yesterday, we took Commish (and me!) for a walk in the morning and went for a trip to the pool. We stayed for about two hours, bringing our picnic lunch and everything, and had a grand time. We had the pool mostly to ourselves for the first hour or so, which was fantastic, but Libby was amused with the other folks when they got there, too. She swam laps this time, with barely any help from me, and then practiced some swimming "by her own" with no prompting or help from me. Yay Libby! (I still hope we can get some more lessons in this summer after July 4.)

When she awoke from her nap, she rose to find Mimi at our house, some paintings hung and rearranged and got a cute flower hook on her bedroom door! My mind has been in overdrive with what we have to do with this new arrival coming and rooms being rearranged, etc. so there have not only been projects, but I have been motivated to complete them while I can. As Lindsi pointed out at book club on Tuesday, "I believe it's called 'nesting!'" I believe she's right. It's been awesome taking care of so many projects while I can still do them (esp. since I can't slap on another coat of paint in the baby's room.)

Last night, as Mimi and I were putting Libby to bed, she said her prayers a bit differently. Normally she tells her Daddy, "but I just love Mama the most" right before hugging him to give him a tease. He was out last night and told me, "but I just love Daddy the most!" Ouch. Stab right to the heart! ...but I did tell him. Humph.

Libby and Mimi had a big day today. Libby had her bangs trimmed, as planned. Mema and Boobus sent Libby a green nightgown, as she had previously mentioned wanting one. So Mema set about to find her the perfect option. It's so cute, as you'll see below - and it came with a matching gown for a doll or stuffed animal. Libby immediately opted for Spot to have the honors of the new gown.

They went to the pool and had a picnic again, but Libby was ready for nap at her usual time. Mimi told her to take a longer nap than yesterday, so Libby said, "Maybe nine." Mimi said that would be great, because yesterday was only "about two." HA. Libby is really trying to figure out what time lengths are and mean, but she's not there yet.

Tonight was her favorite: out to dinner for quesadilla and rice! When we were putting her to bed, Libby went back to "loving Mama the most." (Phew!) She also asked me, "Is the baby up here (pointing to my chest, just under my neck)?" I showed the the baby was much lower and she pressed her head up against it gently and said, "I'm just huggin' the baby." melt.

She also asked me, "Why did your co-worker call you, 'Marie?'" I reminded her that Marie is my name, like hers is Elizabeth and we call her Libby. She said, "I call you Mama." I assured her that was my favorite name. sigh. My heart is full tonight.

In other Maeby news: I had to pull out the ol' body pillow this week. Despite the fact that three-quarters of the world cannot tell that I'm pregnant most of the time, my back could not handle it any longer without some support in bed. So now it's like there are three bodies in our double bed. And I'm not even big yet. Help!

  1. I can't believe y'all still have a double bed. Jim and I switched to a queen size after two years. Totally worth it.
