I think I could call this post "Endings" and that would be better grammar-wise, but I'm calling it "lasts" because we aren't *quite* at the end just yet.
I'm getting together the "last" pre-school teacher gifts for Libby's pre-K career. Libby is writing her own thank you notes to her teachers (to give them tomorrow for the end of Teacher Appreciation Week.) I should have taken a picture, but now they are all sealed up. Darn! She had her "last" day as a line leader for the year yesterday. She had her "last" Playball class today.
And we got her progress report for Playball, too! She scored the highest "proficient" in every area and as I went through all the elements out loud as I reviewed it with her, she had the BIGGEST smile (that she was very modest about, head tilted to the side and away, not making eye-contact.) Her coach wrote, "Libby is a great playballer. Her amazing listening skills impress her coaches. Libby plays all games with intensity and a smile. She displays good sportsmanship and teamwork. Libby understands how to use her body to complete the playball skill. Great job! Coaches Brandon and Teresa." They said Playball just won't be the same without Libby and Kira next year. I don't think Matthew can begin Playball next year.
We are so proud of our Happy, smart girl.
I got to take her to "Kindergarten Round-Up" at her elementary school on Tuesday. It was her first visit there and I think it was quite positive. Several girls from our neighborhood, who will also be on swim team with Libby, were also there. We visited a kindergarten class, where Libby got involved right away with their version of "circle time" on the rug. I could actually see her singing the chorus of the songs they were singing. She danced a bit, too. They she was on her best behavior (as were all the kids) as they listened to the students in this class each talk about what they like about Kindergarten. Each student had prepared a written sheet about it that they read from and where they'd also colored a picture. So cute. The teacher only made them read it aloud if they wanted to, so I asked Libby if she would read aloud if given the chance during kindergarten round-up next year. She said she thought not.
We also got to go through the cafeteria line and eat lunch there (at 10:30 a.m.) Libby had lots of options and chose chicken tacos and a side of corn (she could have chosen three! sides). She also had orange juice (and the beverage options were also plentiful - skim, 1 percent or chocolate milk, orange juice or fruit punch!) I had to help her a bit with everything, so I hope the teachers eat with the littlest guys next year so they can help out. I'm not overly concerned, but it would be nice.
Then she got to climb aboard the bus! She really liked that but she keeps saying she's not sure we'll make it in time for the bus next year. HA. I wonder if she thinks that if she doesn't catch the bus school starts later (cause it's EARLY!) but she will be riding it. Yep.
Matthew is constructing three and four word sentences now and saying, "Matthew" more frequently, like "Math-IEU'". He also calls the dog, "Mish'-nauh." Both are precious and he loves wearing his sun hat. Had to put some sunscreen on him today because we're all already getting sun. The teachers mentioned it when I picked up him from school on Wednesday and how they'd been outside. Okay, so he's really not getting tan or anything, but better to protect that sweet, tender skin.
I also finished the book I was reading within about two weeks earlier this week. So exciting! I haven't started the next one and I'm thinking I may not get to until after school is out. Lots more "lasts" to go.
One particularly good "last" is that the last of our windows that needed to replaced was done yesterday (four final ones!) I have the blinds cut, so now I just have to clean them, paint the trim and re-hang them. SO glad that this is the "last" of those for many reasons!
I'll try to squeeze in one more post this weekend. Tomorrow Aunt Toni is babysitting the kids and I have a "beach party" for Mother's Day at Libby's school. Can't wait!
