Kindergarten = Check!

Libby's last day of Kindergarten was Wednesday!

Libby’s last few weeks of school have been busy! I know that will only be more of the case with each passing year.

We didn’t have an end of the year gymnastics program, because classes actually run all summer. But we stopped that two weeks ago after she began swim team again! Practices started at 4 p.m., and they are every weekday, so it just seemed like a little much. Plus, with Libby’s summer plans, there was really no keeping it going all year. However, I hope we can coordinate with some of her friends for next year. But she had a great year in class and there’s little doubt that we’ll pick it back up after school begins – probably mid-August or September.

I guess the excitement after “Spring Fling” began with the Kindergarten Spring Concert on May 6 -- just in time for Mother's Day.

The concert was first thing in the morning, and Libby's class filed in right on time.

The concert set list was "Hello There;" "Oh, The Months of the Year;" "Kookaburra;" A Mouse and a Moose and a Little Green Frog;" "The Cow Says Meow;" "Lean Green Air Machine;" "America the Beautiful;" "You're a Grand Old Flag;" "Sayonara."

The program was super-cute, and it was fun to finally hear so much of what they've been singing this year. Other moms have talked about how their kids were all practicing the songs. Not Libby, of course. But I have overheard her singing them since then. And as always, she performed great at the event!

Field Day soon followed! I signed up to volunteer, and I got to hang out with Maddie's mom, Sandy, along with her computer teacher and science teacher, and a few other moms, manning the popsicle stand. As this job involved shade, a bench to sit down on, and only the slightest bit of stress when the kids came up to pick their colors, we were able to take turns and spend time watching our babies.

I got to see Libby do the obstacle course...

...the disk toss...

...tee ball...

...the popsicle stand...

...and at the very end, the water games!

She loved field day -- and yes, we sent in entire changes of clothes.

After that excitement, was her first slumber party birthday! She went to pre-K friend Emily's house and she and one other girl were the only two who actually spent the whole night! She did great, and Kira was there for the first part, too. Emily's mom Tara gave Libby a great report that night (I checked in a couple of times via text -- this was huge, okay?) and the next morning. When I saw her later, she also complimented Libby on how she is not picky about food (truly a win, even if I had nothing to do with it.)

She also had Ansley Fuller's art birthday party (Emily's was art-themed, too!) and Kira's science-themed birthday party.

The last few days of school involved a popcorn party, a pj and bring a favorite book day, and the last day, she wasn't allowed to bring a book bag on the bus! So what was left?!

Libby came home with scads of awards, too.

Of course, she received a "Bucket Filler" award earlier, and a tolerance award (for putting up with annoying people nicely.)

At the end of school, she came home with the Char Dorrell Citizenship Award "for Consistently Exemplifying Positive Character Traits." She was the only girl in class to receive this award.

She also get a certificate for her good handwriting!

Her last day of school was no lunchboxes or backpacks on the school bus, so it was a bag lunch where she could throw everything away (which she was probably relieved about).

She was worn out by the end of the year, clearly.

And her little brother sure looks up to her, too!

We have been so proud of her growth this year, and I don't mean height.

First day reminder pic.

Mrs. Cook sent home the nicest note at the end of the year about how she can't think of not having Libby in her class next year. It touched this Mama's heart. I have it paper clipped to her yearbook. Libby is also hoping that next year she makes it into a few more pictures in the yearbook. There was a "walk to school day" pic sent by a neighbor that I was sure would make it, and of course I didn't know what to expect anyway, but I'll try to send more of school events next year!

She also had a playdate the VERY NEXT DAY after school got out, with her friend Maddie! They had lunch at Maddie's house, played and frolicked at Maddie's pool for hours and hours!

We will miss her closest friends from her class next year. Hopefully we'll get one or two next year.

The year has gone quickly, but truly, it has been a good one overall. We made one request for next year regarding placement that I hope will work out. But mostly I just hope that it will be as successful as this one.

Our sweet, smart girl is loving, sensitive, fun, funny and everything a couple of parents could ever want or hope for in a child. She is innocent, big-hearted, tender, caring, and we can't imagine life without her. What's next for our big girl?!
