Michael and I were pretty excited to go, too. You can see that he did not yet have the proper pool shoes for summer, but we did get them! He now has his first pair of (knock-off) crocs, and he really does like wearing them. Libby's rocking her same pair from last year.
Once we were finally all suited up, we hit the pool together. And I have to admit, it was cold. Michael was very brave and dove in before I did!
And Libby enjoyed opening her new dive toys and putting them to use, too.
Matthew and Libby loved jumping off the diving board (Matthew still with some help), and I did, too. We had a great first family foray into the pool for 2016.
That evening, we got to play with the Arnolds. And Mandy and I were twins!
Nick smoked a BBQ pork butt that was amazing, and after a fun night of play with BOTH dogs, plus yummy food, and the kids up well past their bedtime, they sent us home with enough extra food for another whole meal.
On Sunday, we planned to go meet the gang in the mountains. We picked up donuts on the way...
...and got sad news on the way up. We were encouraged to still come, and we were all thankful that we did. It was a different "feel" this time, but boy it's a special place. And we were so glad to be with so many of the Great Society. It was not an easy day, but it was a good day. And I think we were all reminded of what a special and truly unique bond they all have, in large part due to Judson, and Rick and the Roberts family. The Great Society is a special kind of chosen family.
We didn't do a long of photos this time, but Matthew took his first boat ride that day. And we had to remember that. He had special instructions to, "Stay seated!" He kept repeating it before we went out, and he did indeed stay seated. We had one trip out and back with Diddy and one with Daddy, too.
They also had a special time frolicking at the beach area. Libby played in her clothes, swam a bit, and Matthew did the same in his little undies. They both went to the tip-tip of the dock! And we all watched a bunch of teen guys showing off and jumping from the top. Libby was no quite ready for that herself, and I think we were all a little relived.
It really was a special day.
It made me even more grateful for Saturday night with the Arnolds, and even more grateful for Monday too, with the Pearsons. The pool was a bit late in opening, but we enjoyed our time there. I think Matthew only had two meltdowns? Ugh- there have been a lot of meltdowns lately- at least one or two per day - maybe more.
The end was a great super-soaker type water fight. We both brought picnics, and it was great.
We got home in tim for the kids to both get a little nap and then for Gigi and Papa to come! They brought yummy basil garlic burgers and fun times for all. Papa got in his workout, for sure. And Gigi spent the night!
This week included trips to Ball Ground and Canton, and a really nice bit of family time -- blood family and not.
But poor Libby we discovered Friday morning, got a double ear infection and pink-eye somewhere along the way. Gah. So we're taking it easy this weekend. Today was a nice family walk, some playing in the yard with sprinklers and the water table, some planting, and grilling again for dinner.
I traveled to Macon and Augusta for work on Friday, too. A coworker took a rare snap of me with the boss. I'll have to thank him again. They really are rare.
Now this video is a bit old, but I haven't had a chance to post it yet. And the bubbles are always a highlight of my little guy's day.
And I have to end on a happy note.
