Last weekend Michael suggested we purchase some appropriate attire for the kids, so Matthew came with us and we found the right stuff. Those cuties can even make Georgia Tech gear look good.
We had a really fun day. We arrived early and had to do a bit of walking there and back, but the kids were troopers. And of course were on the move for a large portion of the game itself, too. One of our first stops included the Tech Hotel and Conference Center, because we were walking by and saw a Ramblin' Wreck in the window. We went in to scope it out and saw a Buzz statue, too. Plus, we met the grandparents of a Tech QB, #11 Matthew Jordan! They were delighted with the kids, and even more so after we told them they right there was our Matthew Gordon!
Then, we headed toward campus and bumped into some Tech cheerleaders! They were very nice to the kids, and we were VERY impressed with their tumbling runs after each Tech touchdown (there were many)! Getting Matthew to pose for the pics was a challenge, because he was too busy being mesmerized...
Obviously we had to stop at Lutheran Campus Ministries.
And we saw the band's pre-game performance with the cheerleaders at the fountain. Despite their attempts to somehow fall in, the kids managed to avoid getting wet!
We enjoyed a bit of time strolling through campus, and visited Albert Einstein while we were there, too. It was later noted to me that this statue was a gift given by my boss's opponent in our current race. Ugh.
And then we saw the real "Ramblin' Wreck!"
The Arnolds joined us after we got to our seats, and we were all happy to see each other! Believe it or not, we got a bit of pre-game action and well into the first quarter before the begging for food began. Of course there were many bathrooms visits (but no accidents!) And there were many snacks -- fruit strips, pizza, popcorn and frozen lemonade.
The band was fun, the friends were fun, and the kids were pretty cute yelling for the Jackets. Michael was excited to teach them some of the Tech traditions, fight songs and more about the game itself now that Libby is getting old enough to better understand. Ryan was definitely the most interested in the actual game of all the kids. John Luke and a sinus-infection recovering Nick really got to know the stadium well on their walking tours. It was hot, but not terrible, and thankfully the sun hid behind clouds for a nice chunk of time, but we had sunscreen slathered on, so it was all good. We honestly all had a great time! I don't think we need to do another game with them this season, but I really do look forward to one next year.
With my partner in crime again and her family again, of course!
We did not make it to The Varsity today, but we did make it until only five minutes were left in the game before we called it quits. I think it was a little tough on Michael that the game wasn't more competitive since Tech was playing Vandy, but hey, one had to win and the other lose, so... The final score was 38-7.
Libby and I did some Bananagrams to wind down when we got home. Our starting word? Cazadore!
Now, we have a lot more football scheduled for the season, too -- three more games!
And last weekend, Mandy and I had a roomies' trip to Athens for the UGA v. Nicholls State game. Ours was also a noon start time, so we left bright and early before 8 a.m.! When we got to Athens it even felt a bit "Fall" in the air. Of course that did not last, but it did make the walk around downtown and over to the stadium more enjoyable.
Mom met us at Walker's for a little pre-gaming, and then it was on to the stadium. As we walked, there were some Hillary supporters interested in registering three women to vote, if we supported that candidate. We nicely and happily informed them that we were registered and looked forward to voting for Johnny Isakson for U.S. Senate!
Now, unfortunately the game was quite competitive. It made for an exciting game though, and along with every other fan, we stayed the entire time. It was NOT over, until it was over. Our seats were great, on the first level -- and with actual seats on the bleachers. I missed those seat backs today! We were mostly melting ,and it was honestly a good bit cooler to stand up, so we did that a lot too. We also had two women next to us (we'd sold the seats) who were quite upset that the game was not going as everyone had imagined, and they did not appreciate a joke I made toward the end about just taking a knee. Oh well. Mandy and I cheered on our team, cheered on Millie and the Red Coats and had a great time.

After the game, we hit the bookstore, met up with Mom, Aunt Toni and Uncle John and hit Little Italy for a bit of cooler air and some WATER. Eventually there was eating, too. Mandy and I went to The Blind Pig Tavern's new location on E. Washington Street after much concern regarding the best place to go. It hit the spot, and they didn't mind that we were less than stellar in appearance by that point.
And before we headed back home, we got to see Millie and Kathleen (her roommate) and catch up, as well as grab some Insomnia cookies to take back to our families. It was a great day for fun and reconnecting as girlfriends without all of the distractions. We want to make it an annual tradition!
While we were away, Libby was busy with Gigi and Papa in Huntsville, Alabama, for the weekend, to visit the space center there!
She loved it. She saw rockets there and climbed rock walls in her crocs!
She even stayed in a hotel (where -- perhaps most fun of all?! -- the power went out on Saturday night for longer than an hour) AND before that, they enjoyed room service for dinner.
Michael and Matthew had a bachelor's day last Saturday while it was just the two of them. That involved fun at the spray ground/playground one last time for the year and Chick-fil-A, as well as mowing the lawn!
Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte may be on the menu, but it's still pretty hot here in Georgia!
Today was a special one where we got to celebrate with our dear friend Thomas and his now-wife Katie as they exchanged vows and became husband and wife. It was a sweet, small wedding and we were so pleased to be a part of it.
It hasn't rained for weeks, and we are in a drought, but of course today, it rained. In fact, it was a monsoon multiple times. But before Katie walked down the aisle, the rain stopped. This weather made the temperature quite pleasant, and my hair quite stick out! But that was not important. We truly felt special to be a part of this celebration. It felt like just the exact right celebration of their love and commitment to each other.
And yes, Thomas gave a toast that made me cry quite a bit. We are so happy for our last of this gang to tie the knot. We are a lucky bunch, we love each other, and I'm so glad that we've all found the right person to love, too.
Mom and Drew were sadly dateless, and therefore were delighted to be the other's "insta-date!" Just like old times.
This fall has been crazy busy and just great!
