Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend was great!

On Friday, I got to go to Libby's class and by the first mystery reader of the year! Honestly, I was afraid if it got much farther along in the year, I might not be able to make it until January or beyond, so I snagged the first Friday that I knew I had flexibility.

We read "Miss Nelson is Missing," "House Mouse, Senate Mouse" and "Creepy Carrots." The kids seemed to love them all, and were great with their questions and commentary. I even stayed for lunch! Libby's friends Luca and Ravena ate lunch with use too, and they wanted more reading, too. So we also read, "Miss Nelson is Back," there in the lunch room.

At dinner, we knew it would have to be a great weekend after we saw a double-rainbow coming out at the end of our meal!

Indeed it was. We stayed in town, and it was probably better than any trip, or at least it was for me. We got a ton checked off our our "to do" list. We complete and added to our "have fun" list, we watched football, we played, we saw friends and family, and we ate great food.

Michael smoked BBQ on the egg, and the Arnolds came over to help us enjoy it on Saturday night to kickoff UGA's football season. The kids were nutty and had fun, and we did, too. I have no pics this time!

We also got to get in a visit to Mercier Orchards. Picking started a week or two ago, and while it still seems quite warm out, it was pretty nice when we picked, especially in north Georgia, and we weren't sure when else we all might make it up there together.

So we picked a ton of apples, and sure enjoyed the bakery, too.

Libby liked Honeycrisp and September Wonder the best. Matthew liked them all.

Daddy pitched in to help a bit, as well.

We taste tested each available variety, including Rome, Gala, Jonagold and more.

Unfortunately, Libby also had a loose tooth. Instead of all the apple eating pulling her tooth out, it loosened it a ton, causing bleeding and hurting, but it wouldn't come out and it instead just made her sad.

But we snapped a couple more cute ones, and she did cheer up. Matthew slept - in the car - the whole way home!

Aunt Toni and Uncle John stopped by to pick up their peaches and apples and stayed to play for a bit, as well.

Sarah and Juan also came over this weekend for dinner, and they brought that Luca for Michael and the kids to meet him! They were all pretty smitten. The kids wanted to squeeze him up and show him some fun times, but they really were quite gentle overall.

Sarah looked amazing despite all she's been through.

Michael had first dibs on holding the little fella!

And Luca thought he was pretty interesting, too.

Libby was wanting to gaze at him, pet him or hold him the whole night. She kept coming in from dinner to check on him while I was holding him.

He was checking her out, too!

Matthew couldn't get enough of Luca, either.

Libby kept petting his sweet soft hair, and couldn't seem to get over the amount of hair he had.

They both took turns helping feed him.

They even pulled up their tiny chairs to sit super close to watch Sarah feed him.

Libby finally got a turn to hold him, too!

She was a natural!

Matthew wanted to do the same, but we held him off this time. Ah, Libby is in love.

I got to hold him for a bit and sing to him a little, too.

We can't wait for his next visit!

We also fit in some pool time this weekend, since that season is coming to a close, and we did some science projects today, too. And we baked the first batch of apple bread. And we're giving it all away!

A happy weekend - and only four more days until the next one!
