Libby is 16 days old today! And she is growing!
We had her two week Doc's appointment on Friday and this week he called her a "strong woman!" What?! She is our tiny baby! But of course, we are so proud and glad to have a professional verify what we already know about our girl. She is also now 7 lbs. 4 ozs., and 21 1/4 inches long.
We try to get some "tummy time" in each day and sometimes use her play mat, but as you can see by this photo, that doesn't always work. So right now, we mostly use my chest after I scrunch down on the sofa, so that she can look up at my face and Daddy's or Marmena's - or this week, GiGi's. We had the changing of the grandmothers today as my mom left after her two-week stint with us and Michael's mom arrived for a week! Their time and efforts here with us have been so helpful and I don't know what I'd do without them (certainly would not be blogging right now)!
After a long week and three days of attempting to nurse Libby, I had to throw in the burp cloth this past Monday. I'm not sure I will ever recover from her handiwork on me (her arms, legs and lungs aren't the only powerful things on her), but there's at least a chance now that I'm expressing milk for her rather than her receiving it from the source! And since she's drinking around 4 ounces at a time already of a breastmilk/formula combination, she's also able to go for longer stretches without eating, which is pretty nice. The doctor assures us that's fine, especially since she's obviously still growing so well. Of course, this change did not come without tears from me, but Libby is completely fine with a bottle (she's no dummy; it's a heck of a lot easier than breastfeeding) and I try to be the main one to feed her for now. (Though I have shared with Marmena and Michael - especially with Michael at night!)
Speaking of nights - my baby can go for a nice chunk of the night without waking up to eat and I'm guessing it's just a matter of time before she can make it for six hours. Of course, that will mean me staying up til around midnight, which I'm not exactly good at, to make it a "full night." But darn, we really have lucked out with a good girl!
We also got to introduce her to more friends over the last week - including Mandy & Nick's baby boy, Ryan, who is exactly two months older than Libby.
She also got six huge boxes of fancy dress clothes and three small bins worth of hair bows and doo-dads from her Great Aunt Toni and cousins Sarah and Millie. Oh, you should see (I'm sure you will on blog photos in the future) some of the beautiful dresses she's gotten! We won't have to buy her a thing until she's ten years old.
In other news, and in case it isn't obvious; we just can't get enough of her! I love watching her and am fascinated by her little sounds (she likes to talk a lot) and movements. We joke that it's just like "she's a real person." But the funny thing is - she IS a real person - and she's OURS!
