What a Week!

Since Monday's post, we've had quite a week.  We've watched a lot of Olympics - or at least mom and dad TRIED to watch some between dad working and Libby fussing.  "They" say six weeks is the peak of "fussy time," and I hope that's true.  Honestly, she really isn't all that bad.  We're just not totally used to it yet and constantly bouncing or walking around with a baby is pretty tiring at the end of the day.  I guess we're all sort of tired by then, so it becomes group fussy time.  Ha.  In addition to peak fussy time, she also had a growth spurt (I think) and we changed her formula from liquid to powder, which can also have an effect on fussiness.  So- it was the perfect storm.

Since we ventured to church last week, we also figured she might be able to tackle a few other adventures (or really that I might be able to manage).  Libby and I ran to the grocery store on Tuesday (fastest trip ever, since she has to be moving constantly in her carrier), then to Cartersville for my doctor check-up on Thursday (mom met us there to help out- but she was great!), and today she went to my office.  She seemed to be a hit there.  She definitely was very awake and perky and sweet while getting passed around!  She made her mom very proud.

It's amazing to watch her grow and learn new things!  I get the special treat of being with her more than anybody - so I get to almost see the wheels turning in her mind as she sees and focuses on new things every day.  ...then I get think about how determined and focused she is when she wants something... and think about how sooner than I think, she'll be able to actually do something about it - and then I'll REALLY have my hands full trying to keep up with her!  She's just amazing and I feel so lucky!

I also think about the world that she's going to have to grow up in and I want to fix everything for her.  With the news on Iran this week and Joe Stark flying his plane into an IRS office building, okay, and everything else, it's a little scary.  It seems so much more real and serious when you're looking out not just for yourself, your husband and other loved ones, but for your own innocent baby daughter.  It has always made me so proud to work for someone who has his priorities straight, does the right thing and really is working to make a difference in the world, but it means even more to me now.  It was great to be able to introduce Libby to my boss today who she's already heard so much about, even if their first meeting was somewhat brief.

  1. TOTALLY agree about the world...I can't even watch the news since Mary Lynne has arrived. It makes me too sad. It also makes me want to have a sibling for her, so she'll hopefully always have someone to "weather" the world with :)

About the moving around...Mary Lynne ALWAYS had to be bouncing. Oh, it was SO exhausting (but I did love it). The Baby Bjorn was a LIFESAVER. She's big enough to go in now...just put her in and get to work...you can clean, do dishes and just about anything else. She might also like a sling...I didn't use one with ML, but I have lots of friends who swear by one. Good luck!
