How is it possible with a baby, you ask?
My parents take care of her while Michael and I take our first overnight trip without Libby together.
This past Saturday, Michael and I were invited to a wedding for one of his coworkers in Macon. The original plan had been to bring my mom and Libby with us with mom to watch her while we went to the wedding and then we’d squeeze in a visit to Ty Pearson and his parents while we were in town. Well, Ty’s parents had a wedding in Atlanta the same day, so our hopes for a visit were not to be. So instead, Marmena suggested that she and Granddaddy Al Hodge keep Libby at our house along with Commissioner so that we wouldn’t have to make arrangements for her, too. Since Commissioner has led such a fortunate life that she’s never had to stay in a kennel, that sounded like a pretty good plan to us!
Marmena spent the night on Friday after watching Libby for the day while I was a work. So, since she was there anyway, Michael and I left a little early for Macon so we could take full advantage of a babysitter and go to a movie, too! We saw “Death at a Funeral,” which we’d both been really wanting to see. And while we didn’t fall over laughing, it was amusing and we appreciated the ability to (A) go out to a movie and (B) watch it the whole way through without falling asleep, doing other chores while we watched or getting interrupted.
The wedding was also very sweet and pretty, and as always, Michael and I had a great time at the reception. There was a little girl there too – blonde, probably about 14 or 15 months – who was also very into the music playing and took over the dance floor to steal the show many times as she walked a few steps and bounced to the rhythm. Of course it made us think of our sweet Libby, so I had to call and check on her. She was apparently being a sweet angel as we suspected and we went to join back in celebrating the happy newlyweds.
On Sunday morning, we slept in (though I kept waking up thinking Libby would be crying to get up and have breakfast any minute), grabbed an early lunch and headed back home as fast as the speed limit would carry us.
We walked in all excited to see Libby… and she was napping! But we went in to gaze at her while she slept anyway. Our first overnight together without her went very well, and while we’ll have to repeat it again sometime, we’re in no hurry!
