Last night I wrote a whole blog justifying our decision to switch Libby to formula as a reaction to the issue I am writing about below.  Because I still feel so much pressure about this issue, even though there's no going back for us.  Well, I let it sit rather than posting it immediately and I'm glad, because I'm working on taking a bit of pressure off of myself as a mother, so I've deleted most of it.  I don't need to justify my decision to anyone, which was best for Libby and best for me.

It started because Libby has used a certain baby formula that was just recalled since she was very young.  Well, as I searched around online for what to do during this recall and how to handle it, I read some of the meanest comments online.  How about, "Mothers who are affected by this recall deserve what they get because they should be breastfeeding."  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!!!  What about single fathers or parents of adopted babies?  Why are people so hateful?

Shouldn't mothers understand what our sisters-and-brothers-in-diaper-duty are feeling and going through?  Don't we already question every decision we make for our babies?  Why can't we support each other?  Well, moms, whatever you decide, more power to you!  Know that I am sending you happy thoughts every day and that your decisions make you and your family happy and able to enjoy each other best!

PS- Libby and I had an awesome day together today!  We visited the library for a book club book for me  and for Libby to play and get a book of her own (not that she actually needs any more...)  We had a very nice time as I tried to keep her from knocking down a castle of blocks that another child built, she crawled around and played with some toys, looked at the "big" kids and flirted with the parents and staff.  We also went for a walk this morning with our new neighborhood walking friend and her little boy, went to Walmart, played with Commissioner and enjoyed each other.

Trying to get a shot of Libby in her little "jogging suit."  It was brisk outside for our walk this morning!
She can reach SO HIGH!  On her tiptoes to try to grab the mail.  As you can see, we have to keep the purse, etc. out of reach.

  1. Oh, Marie, people are mean simply because they CAN be! They don't realize how much they hurt others, even those they don't know. I commend you for taking so much pressure off yourself. You are a wonderful mother and it's so obvious when I see the two of you together and even when you're not. By the way, Libby is a sweet, sweet baby girl and she looks so cute in her jogging suit! Love, GiGi

  2. Don't let anyone make you question for a second the choice you made. The proof that you chose wisely is before you every day...an incredibly healthy, active, smart and beautiful little girl. What more could anyone ask for?

  3. Love this post! Don't justify it or feel guilty for it!! I sure don't! ML has been a formula baby from the start, and I am still so glad I did it that way! It's been best for both of us, and Libby looks just fine too :)
