Friday was great for Libby, since in addition to Mimi coming to keep her, Aunt Toni and Millie came to play for the day, too! (And she got to eat out at lunch- AND out at dinner the night before.) Friday evening, we met the Pearsons at a new spot that Lindsi recommended, Zoe's Kitchen, and the kids had a lovely time, as did the adults. Saturday morning we took it easy and went to the pool for a little while. Libby continues to do an amazing job swimming. She jumped off the diving board four times (with me to catch her) and raced both Mommy and Daddy in the water. So fun!
Saturday evening we were treated to a delicious dinner at the Watson's house. Jim grilled a pork loin (from a local pig they knew!), corn and made a great green bean casserole (I LOVE that and never have it). We also had a delish tiramisu and pimento cheese made by Jim from Tupelo Honey in Asheville with a variety of different crackers! Best ever. I don't know how we missed that when we were at Tupelo Honey this spring. Probably got lost in the extensive menu of deliciousness. I think Jim added some horseradish though and it was a nice touch. We also got to see their beautiful house for the first time and visit with our friend, Andrew. He's out of town a lot for work, so it's always a great treat to see him!
Today we had our friend, Sara, over for brunch, and the Arnolds came, too! It was very casual and for once I didn't feel over the top, but there was plenty of yummy food for all. Kicking back with old friends, which I felt like we did all weekend, is good for the soul.
Tonight, Michael broke out the beer can chicken roaster thing for the Big Green Egg and we made that for the first time. It was delicious and juicy and tender and smelled heavenly and was amazing. (Imagine how much better if we'd also known the chicken!) Ha. It was just our little family for dinner, which was also fun after a weekend filled with friends. We had Emily's bulger-stuffed squash (so yum - and healthy) with it and THIS amazing tomato tart that my mom told me about last week. Aunt Toni provided the heirloom tomatoes and the basil came from our garden, so that made it extra special, too. Friends, food, family, fun: a perfect weekend.

So, back to the Fire Museum. I learned of this hidden gem from friend, Brooke, who always takes her two boys when she's in Charleston.
Papa thought it was the "sleeper hit" of the trip. Libby sure didn't sleep! There was a play set in the middle of the museum that she had a blast entertaining herself - and us - on. It has a fire escape slide, fire ladder to climb up and a fireman's pole to slide down. We also got to watch a video, cyclorama-type picture story thing and robotic fireman play/program deal. AND there was a fire truck simulator where you get to "drive" the truck as it goes to an emergency call, hit the sirens, honk the horn, etc. There was a lot more great information and interesting history there, as well as a ton of different fire trucks spanning the years, but the things I mentioned were the features to which Libby was most attracted.
Diddy and Mommy took one turn each on the fireman's pole to demonstrate how it works to Libby and called it a day.
On the fire truck simulator.
Each kid gets to design her own fireman's patch on the way out! Libby got a real sticker with the design to wear out and they e-mailed one to us, so you can see it below.
We ate a yummy mediterranean lunch at Manny's before nap time and then met up with the Ryan's, Parry's and college buddy Lauren McJenkin and her fiancee Edward at the James Island Yacht Club for cocktail hour and appetizers while the Gigi and Papa went to try out a restaurant on Folly.
It was great to meet up with Maggie and family again since they'd been in Orlando for the previous few days seeing Matt's sister's family.
Getting a still, decent photo of the two girls proved to be a challenge. Mary Catherine helped!
...and this was the best of this series...
But this one's pretty cute!
And a shot of almost the whole group!
Libby even let Katie hold her by the end of the evening.
The last day was set aside for the beach. And the Parry's came out for the morning, too!
Maggie Parry, bathing beauty.
So precious.
Here, Libby is "surfing" again. Man, was this exhausting for Mommy!
The Parry's.
Here, Libby is "Mommy Surfing." Also a workout for Mommy when those waves hit!
With a ray egg case.
We ended the trip with dinner on Friday night at Blu on Folly, where the Gordon's had eaten the night before! It opened right onto the beach and was really pretty. My fave thing was the fancy caesar salad with the giant caper berries, but the whole meal was tasty.
Pretty baby. Tired baby.
That night we finally got to all play a game: Scattergories! We had a ball and frightened each other with the similarity of some of our answers. Whoa.
Okay- gotta end this post. Time for dessert! Did I mention that Libby and I made peanut butter cookies on Friday night and yesterday I turned them in to peanut butter and jelly ice cream cookies per Michael's request?!
YUM!
(And Mandy, I'll get those photos up from today later this week!) You were pestering me about the Fire Museum though, so I wanted to get to that first. :)
