(Okay, this was written at Folly, even if we're technically already back home, this post was mostly written "on the scene.")
We are having a great time here at Folly Beach. Trip in was sluggish for a bit, but no major hold-ups. Libby was as cool as a cucumber during the whole trip - slept for maybe 15 minutes on the way down and never really needed any entertaining. Of course, we "entertained" (read: bugged) her some and I passed her a couple of books/toys, but she really didn't need much maintenance. We stopped for lunch once just to grab it but ate on the road since it was 104 degrees out and we couldn't leave Commissioner in the car for even a minute. So this was technically Libby's first full meal in the car. Mish was in the back seat with her, so I couldn't be back there for much assistance. I fashioned a "bowl" out of the paper bag from Chick-fil-A though and she ate right from it with no problems.
We visited the beach briefly that evening so Libby and Commissioner could check it out, but made promises for swimsuits and a longer stay tomorrow!
Yes, the week went much like this... people applauding her every move!
Oops- first wave to get her on this trip. Splashed right up in her face. She gave me a quick look to see if she was in trouble for getting soaked. No way!
And I think this one is a metaphor for the rest of our lives with Libby- chasing just steps behind her!
On Sunday, we had lots of friends visit us! Katie and Matt brought their 1 1/2 year old daughter, Maggie, and Richard, (Katie's dad) who we're renting the house from, came, too! We played at the beach for hours.
Libby found two live starfish and two hermit crabs, as well as several other crabs and she just had a ball with them, pouring water and sand on them, taking it off, and over again.
But she even let us release them with no trouble- just joy.
I often call her a "B-Nut," but it quickly changed to "Beach Nut" this week - and she loved the new nickname!
...and just before we left home, a friend gave her a book called, "Rocking in my School Shoes." It's about Pete the Cat and boy does she love this book. We read it twice before her nap each day and once or twice before bed (depending on how late it was!)
Sunday night we had our family photo op and I can't wait to see the results. My friend, Maegan, came out with her family and her camera. She took beautiful photos of us between storms when we were in Charleston two years ago, so we hoped to capture the magic again this year. Well, it was HOT and SUNNY since we were in the middle of a heatwave, but we had a nice time together and got a ton of photos in a short amount of time, so hopefully our good luck will continue from last time. It was great to see Maegan, her husband and two beautiful kiddos, Addison and Lawson. Unfortunately, I got NO photos of them. :( If you click her name above, you can see some really old ones on her blog, though. :)
We didn't beat the rush to dinner though, so after waiting for a long time and hitting the tacky gift shop across the street (where Libby wanted to just touch every. thing.), the guys got us some pizza to bring home and we fed Libby's leftovers from the night before and promised her pizza for lunch the next day! She accepted it and gratefully went to bed.
She HAD to get to bed to recover from the day and to get ready for our big trip to the aquarium on Monday! (So that's next up on the blog.)
So much fun! It's so nice when they can eat without assistance in the car, because, sometimes, you just need them to eat in the car. I keep a few ziploc sandwich bags in the console to put food in if we have to get it while we're out. Yorke, unfortunately, can't quite navigate the bag and just dumps it out on the floor. Can't wait to see the beach family pics! Miss y'all!
