A Very Hungry Caterpillar Turns 1

We got to celebrate Matthew's first birthday last weekend!

On Friday night, we had a great time here getting the final "stuff" ready. During the week, there had been many preparations...

But on Friday night, it was time to decorate cupcakes! We switched on the music television stations and Michael played DJ while Libby and I worked on cupcakes until it was her bedtime. Any time I'd stop to dance... Libby told me, "Mama, you're wasting time..." (Wonder where she's heard that before?!)

After Libby went to bed, it was time to decorate Matthew's smash cake, the butterfly! It turn out quite as well as I'd hoped, but it was good enough in the end anyway!

And more cute stuff...

Matthew had a great nap before his party and he sure enjoyed his milk to kick it off.

Mema was one of the first to congratulate him on his big day.

And a final touch or two...

Including his birthday boy crown!

The party was lots of fun with friends and "family-lite" here, including Davis Fuller whose 1 year birthday party was later the same day! We had fun at this party for a little while, but then our little man was dun-zo with the day.

The day was beautiful - and perfect - in so many ways.

The scene inside was busy!

But outside was great, too! Bouckie managed to even hold his favorite broom while he bounced in the trampoline by himself and with Ansley.

And the menu was fruit (from the book) and pizza- also mentioned in the book!

Then it was time for gifts!

Matthew got the "Gordon" train from the Thomas series, a fun new school bus, a Mega Bloks dump truck, new books, clothes, set of construction vehicle toys and more! WHAT a day!

And then it was on to the part we'd waited for! The cake!

Matthew was pretty excited to see the cake and the candle, too!

We helped him blow it out... and you can see from the photo he was most interested in big sister's activities.

He licked the frosting right off the bottom of the candle and loved it. He tried to bite into it!

And then...

He didn't know what else to do. It was too big to pick up; it wasn't cut into bites; so he tackled it the best way hew knew how!

Face-first. Repeatedly.

He was also interested in the other pieces of cake still on the table. So he had to try my green cupcake, too!

And Libby was pretty excited for her piece - the head!

Matthew rather wanted that, too. (But he didn't get that one.)

And after the cake, it was off for more fun times in the yard!

All-in-all, it was a perfect day. You'd think that that night, he'd have passed out, but we heard his aquarium still on at least 30 minutes after we put him to bed. Apparently, he thought he was old enough to stay up late now!

And as Libby likes to point out, we do have the perfect, sweetest little Bouckie baby for us. We ARE the luckiest! There isn't a better boy!

Happy Birthday to our sweet Matthew! Your family LOVES YOU SO! Thanks for being ours.
