First let me say/ask - barbecue in the slow cooker, where have you been all my life?!
After making the buffalo chicken sandwiches, entire chickens, ribs, roasts, etc. in the slow cooker, I asked myself why I had not made just regular old BBQ in the crock pot?! It seemed like the perfect idea this week to plan for the rainy Saturday just around the corner.
We had a birthday party to attend during the day and Michael has to work all the time right now, even after he gets home from work on Saturday, so while Libby napped this afternoon, I figured at least Michael was home if she woke up and I'd use the time to run errands rather than fix dinner. So I popped the pork in the cooker this morning and by the time we got home from the party, our house was already smelling of deliciousness! And boy was it! Fair warning: if we have you over in a group setting in the near future, prepare yourself for some barbeque.
(Have you noticed that I've spelled our main dinner course in all of its many spellings? People have strong feelings on the proper spelling and I'd hate to offend!)
Anyway, on to Libby and her friends. We had the pleasure and honor of attending a family First Birthday party for our friend, Ty, today! We were so excited to celebrate with them and I may have gotten a little misty-eyed thinking of his arrival just over a year ago while I wrote his card. He didn't live in Atlanta when he was born, but he does now and it's great to know our sweet Ty is just down the road.
Ty enjoyed his cake far more than Libby enjoyed hers on her big day, but he played it cool, taking his time to savor each bite.
His Elmo balloon was a huge hit, and Libby enjoyed jumping right in to the gift-opening action, showing him just what to do. (She really doesn't hold back.) And being an old pro herself, she also showed him how to use his new tunnel before he even had a chance to look at it!
But she was equally thrilled that her friend also received a brand new wagon! They got to push it around the den and go for a ride almost immediately!
Do you see that she's sporting a bow?! It's the very first bow she's ever worn! We thought it was fitting for both her ensemble and a party.
In other news, she remains brilliant and strong. She enjoys shoving large pieces of furniture around and if you attempt a tug-of-war with her, prepare yourself that you just might not win! She's also big into matching pictures to real-life items, matching pictures, etc. Oh - and her favorite part of the party today was... can you guess... No, she didn't want the cupcakes (what is the deal with her?)... but she DID LOVE Lady (the Pearson's dog). There were so many squeals and she even gave Lady a kiss. Marmena says that yesterday she also went around kissing my budding hydrangeas in the back yard after being told to be "gentle" with them (rather than pulling off the tiny green leaf buds.)
Ty is super close to walking too, and it was precious to watch him getting around and standing today, considering those first few steps. Perhaps he made his first few after we left?
Anyway, congrats to the Pearson's on making it through Year One. It truly is something to celebrate and we can't wait to watch our babies grow up together.
