Libby Lately

Lately, Libby has begun her summer swimming lessons, with the first one last Wednesday. She was great about getting ready and letting me put sunscreen on her (so she must have been excited)! We started talking the lessons up with her a few days before and reminding her about the lessons from last year. She cried through most of the lessons but would practice with us on her own what she learned and was doing great at getting to the side and pulling herself out of the pool by the end of the summer. Her first entrance into the pool for this year was at her lesson with no "warm-up" time, so considering that, I thought she did quite well. She cried a tad bit and had to get out once to tee-tee (but then used it again at the end to try to quit the lesson early - by the way, they're only 15 minutes anyway.) But overall, a win. I hope this week is even better since she'll know what to expect. I think it would help if I was in the pool with her, but it would also be a distraction, so I'm not doing that. (Also, her teacher won't let the parents get in during lessons.)

So this was her before (notice the pigtails - she not only didn't put up a fight... she stayed quite still for me!)

She's also talking up a STORM! And I didn't mention how, when we picked her up at Mi and Diddy's, that we thought she might like to try some of the ice cream that Mi had made for dessert (she's never been a big fan in the past) but she didn't. When we tried and she was forced to put a bit on her tongue, she started BAWLING... poor thing.

This weekend, we went to the Marietta Farmers Market for the first time and I could have spend a bunch of money. I mostly got produce, but there was mainly more than just produce. However, it was also "May-retta Daze," and arts and crafts festival and "Go Girl, Marietta," a kid fundraiser event. Well, that event had the bouncy house and there was great music, so we were set!

Oh, she also had a bit of fun with the fountain!

And the train on the square!

What else...? She's saying lots of cute words and tends to drop the first letter or two of words, like, "'unnin" for "running," "atur" for "water," or sometimes, she drops the last letter, like "peekin'" and "sneakin.'" Oh I love listening to her and being able to communicate with actual words better! She's also, when she feels like it, saying the names of all of her grandparents, "Mi," "Diddy," "Papa" and "GeeGee."

And she says, "Ibby!"

I love her.

Now, we have had a bit of a setback on the potty, and you can imagine that I'm a bit frustrated. She keeps wetting the bed first thing in the morning, rather than calling us to get her up. We even tried getting her up around 10:30 last night to get her to go again so it might not be quite so urgent in the morning and it still didn't work. And then she wet the bed during her nap time. So, we put her in pull-ups tonight because the last several mornings we've had to get up and immediately bathe her and her linens. She's great during the day and we can't figure it out, but it doesn't do to let her keep doing it when it doesn't seem to bother her enough to stop. So we're talking about it some, and working on some other options to deter it from happening, but if you have any ideas, please share!

  1. It won't hurt her to wear pull-ups at night and nap time for a while...maybe even a long while. I promise you it won't confuse her. My experience is that she will let you know when she wants to stop wearing them. I know there are lots of books and people who say differently, but since you asked for ideas, this is mine. Love to all of you.

  2. I don't know anyone who had a 2 year old that could make it through the night consistently. I even know 5 year olds who still sleep in pull ups despite their parents extreme efforts to get them to stay dry all night (cutting off fluids 2 hours before bed, taking them to the potty again at 10 or so, offering bribes, etc). I know people who waited to potty train until their child was over 3 and a few were able to go all out immediately, but those are even rare in my experience.

It won't confuse her if you explain it. C had no trouble understanding that she wore a pull up only at night and for nap. Gradually we moved her out of pull ups at nap time. When she was ready, she asked not to wear them at night. We told her if she kept it dry every night for a full week, then she could wear panties to bed. She did. We do get her up at go one more time before we go to sleep.

At 2, Libby should be able to understand the "only at night" part. Just my 2 cents.
