We Belong in the Zoo ...or in Athens?

May is moving far too quickly!

I've not had much time to blog this month- it's been quite busy. Last weekend, Libby spent time out of town... again, while Michael and I got to celebrate the marriage of a long-time friend of both of ours at a wedding in Athens! I went to middle school and high school with the groom at Davidson in Augusta and Michael went to college with him at Vanderbilt. We've kept up over the years and I/we were so excited to be at the wedding. We've met the bridge before at some of Ben's concerts, but still don't know her very well. Their families and closer friends certainly seem to love the couple and they seemed very happy. Unfortunately, they currently live in Wisconsin, but hope to move back South in the next year or two after Lisa finished her post-doc work up there. We'll see!

We got to stay with good friends Amanda and James and see a bunch of friends that we both went to school with in middle/high school and college. We got to eat at a couple of favorite spots - and Michael got to watch a big soccer match with a bunch of other fans at "the" soccer hang-out there, The Globe. (It's also very much the English major bar and a favorite spot of mine in school.)

Libby got to stay with Gigi and Papa and she also saw my grandmother and Aunt Marsha over at "Mimi's" house. The artist formerly known as, "Marmena" may have permanently become "Mimi."

Last week, we also had to maximize our zoo membership from last year and squeeze in one last visit.

We had a ball - the meerkats are always a hit - and we got to see the Bongos up close!

...and running is always a blast.

The required cute shot of Libby's face in a lion's body!

Checking out the Willie B statue's belly button. Alas, she couldn't find one!

Obligatory nest photo with Daddy.

We thought Libby would love the carousel after watching "Mary Poppins" for weeks on end. But this is as close as she got to riding ON an animal...

Maybe she would have been more comfortable with a horse? Anyway, a classic, memorable moment in parenting/the life of Libby. We took it as such and just enjoyed ourselves.

The reptile house was finally open, so we got to see that for the first time, too. Libby had a blast having us hold her up to all the tanks/windows and finding the sometimes well-hidden snakes, frogs, etc.

And her swim lesson today was the best yet. Smiling the whole time and good work! I look forward to taking her to the pool tomorrow for the first time at our neighborhood pool this summer. ...and she's excited, too!

Oh- and I think tonight was the first time Libby has told me that she loved me. We were having our last pre-bed moments together and she told me that she loved me! If she's said it before in words, I haven't understood her. It's not like she doesn't show it all the time. But the word. It's special.

Floating...

  1. great minds think alike... we're off to Riverbanks zoo next week when I'm off work. Our membership has not been taken advantage of this year, which is so not like us!
The belly button pic is too cute!
