We finally got to pick strawberries this spring.
Last week, we enjoyed a quick trip to Rome to LCCL Strawberry Farms to pic our own strawberries. Last year, we did it while we were in Charleston and it was a muddy affair. This year, despite lots of recent rain, it was quite clean! The strawberry beds there are built up from the ground and there's a covering around each of the plants. Wow- it was so nice!
Sadly, Libby didn't actual enjoy eating them as much as last year, but she did have fun. She did a great job picking them, too! Marmena and I even enjoyed some fresh, homemade strawberry ice cream, but Libby passed on that, too. Silly girl!
She had a great time climbing on the rocking chairs, visiting the dogs and pond there and taking a ride on the glider.
So far, I still have a decent number of fresh strawberries, but I also used them to make strawberry banana bread and mini-muffins (the bread loaf is in the freezer for later!) and the scones I mentioned that we ate for Mother's Day. I only have one left... and it will be gone tomorrow.
I wish strawberry season was a bit longer! I'd really like to go again.
The good news is that it's nearly BLUEBERRY season - and that is my favorite, and Libby's too!
