Big Week!

Well, I'm finally sitting tonight after a busy day today!

We got to do fun things including a breakfast at home that I picked up at Chick-fil-A for fun, we got Libby's hair trimmed (finally) for summer and Commish got her nails trimmed, too. We also did a whole bunch of loads of laundry, switched the bedspread on the guest bed to the beautiful quilt Amanda Penn made us for our wedding gift, ran to Target and the grocery store and the like.

Libby and Michael did get a round of driveway ball in and I got to snuggle a bit with Commish in bed this morning. Aaaalso, we got together for the first time in several months (since the egg hunt?) with the Pearsons, who met us at the pool this evening for some fun swimming and a picnic dinner. Riley was even enjoying his float by mid-way through swim time and Ty was thrilled to show off his diving board skills. He's adopted a jump style henceforth known as "the flying squirrel." Libby and Matthew had a great time as always. I wish Ty could have joined her at VBS this week, but maybe I can get that worked out for next year. It would be great if they could go together.

All in all though, Libby did very much enjoy VBS. So yay- she had a positive first experience, and once you know what to expect, it should be even better next year, and the year after that, etc.

Michael was out of town one night this week and as I mentioned, I made the brave decision to drop a bottle and add another real meal. It has been just GREAT! And it seems that Matthew is generally down to just two naps nowadays. The great thing about that is that Matthew's second nap and Libby's nap coincide at the moment, so it's a great opportunity to get some work done - or for our moms to sit down with just a bit of quiet for a little while. Libby's naps aren't always long, but at the very least she stays in her room awhile - and this week, with VBS every day, she has truly done some quality napping. We'll have to figure out some more outdoor play with sprinklers, etc. in the morning times while Matthew's napping this summer to keep up that good Libby napping in the afternoon.

We took a late afternoon walk to the playground one day so he could get a little more rest time since there was no third nap, to make sure he could make it to bedtime. We were there maybe 10 minutes before we had to scoot back home to beat a quick, but intense, summer storm. They have been popping up like crazy this summer!

Matthew can pull himself to standing now if he has different levels to grab onto - say a stool and then the table... or different levels of a stool. Additionally, he can crawl at double-time if Commish's bowls are on the floor in the kitchen and he's trying to get to them or the back door is open. He's an escape risk!

Those top front teeth are really trying to come in. You can tell by the signs of teething going on. He likes to chew on the plastic stacking rings, foam blocks and his fingers the best. He forever has a finger stuck in the front of his mouth. Oh - and of course when he's in the crib with his passy, he likes to gnaw on that, too. He'll put about 3/4 of it in his mouth at a time, or put it in sideways to chew on the thicker edge rather than the nipple. He also loves ball caps. They're great for peek-a-boo games, plus the bills are super fun to chew on, too.

Since Mema and Boobus' anniversary dinner, Matthew is officially sitting in high chairs at restaurants. We really usually only eat out about once a week on Friday nights, so we've just kept him in his carrier when we've gone, because he wasn't eating solid meals at dinner time. But now that he is... he's sitting up with us and he has been just great! He has more admirers than ever. He also rode in a shopping cart for the first time this week.

He also began eating finger foods. He likes banana chunks, Gerber "puffs," bits of bread/rolls, canned peas, and today enjoyed his first bits of hash browns! He's eating meat now, too. And tonight he seemed to enjoy the white bean dip, so I gotta make some of that soon, too. Libby and I love it too, plus it's soooo tasty and good for us! It seems like he's grown up a ton just this week.

Oh- and a classic moment. I have just been carrying him in and out to the car in my arms this week, because carrying him in the car seat/carrier is extremely heavy multiple times a day with Libby going back and forth to VBS. So Friday morning, I left the house a bit early to get my oil changed before work. Well... I'm sitting at the service department, checking e-mails, reading the news, etc. and I get a call from Gigi asking whether the carrier might perhaps still be in my car. Yep. So she can't take Libby to VBS! Fortunately for me, Michael had zipped up the road to have his tires rotated and had just finished up in time to whip by the house on his way in to work and pick Libby up to take her to VBS. Talk about a "duh" moment. She already reminded me tonight to get it out of the car after church tomorrow so I didn't accidentally take it to work on Monday in case they needed to go somewhere.
