Blog from Mimi….Fun with Libby and Matthew !

Several months ago, Marie and Michael found out that they would be going to Florida for the annual bankers convention, and we found out that we would get to babysit Libby and Matthew. Since we now have two sweeties to take care of when mommy and daddy go out of town, Gigi and I both agreed that we would take one sweetie at the time.

This year a family wedding was scheduled for the same weekend. Diddy and I decided to go to the wedding and asked if we could take Libby with us.

On Friday, May 30, we picked Miss B up and headed to Amelia Island.

Aside from the occasional (and to be expected), “are we there yet” and “how much longer till we get to our hotel”, Libby is a wonderful traveling companion.

Our trip down was long, but not boring. We listened to Fleetwood Macs, TUSK, more than once, and then switched to selections from Queen, random 60’s tunes and we even introduced her to the Beach Boys. Oh, and did we mention TUSK ?

Diddy read Miss B several stories, each with it’s own special Diddy flair, and they both took short naps.

Finally, we were at our hotel. Libby upon first seeing it, (it was a multicolored, building in downtown Fernandina Beach) pronounced it “CUTE”.

She seemed very pleased with the accommodations and after getting settled in our room, we were off to find food (we did have lots snacks in the car, but hadn’t eaten a meal since Macon, where we stopped to play at the Chick-fil-A).

We decided to eat outside at the marina. The weather was perfect and the food delish. While waiting for our meal, Diddy and Libby explored the dock and the “Shark”. There was also a larger than life monument to the “Shrimp” in the corner of the porch.

After dinner, we were ready to go back to our hotel and look around. Although it was late and technically, the pool was closed, we managed to find it and Libby took a dip. We had so much fun wading in “fully dressed.” Libby said, “I am so excited, I got to go in the pool at night with all my clothes on”.

Our hotel room was perfect, complete with a refrigerator and a pull-out sofa, which Libby chose. There was one small and very noisy problem. The hotel was right next to active train tracks, so at least 4 times a night we were awoke to a very loud train whistle and clanging. The room even shook a bit.

In the morning we made our way down to breakfast where we visited with relatives (also there for the wedding) and dined on “waffles” that we made ourselves.

After breakfast, it was time to go to the pool. We played and had a terrific time all morning. Libby even made a friend and they played together, tossing a ball back and forth. (Libby had a better pitching arm than he did.)

For lunch we had planned to go out, however, after our shower Libby decided that she wanted to stay in the room and eat and take a nap, so we did.

Then it was time for the wedding, Libby’s first.

Before the ceremony, we told her what to expect, and talked a lot about when her mommy and daddy got married. She was of course, perfect. The wedding was beautiful. Then it was on to the reception and fun!

She was very excited about seeing, and eating the wedding cake (3 large tiers, big is impressive). There was also a CAT shaped grooms cake (we don’t know the story), and goody bags that you fill with candy, as your parting gift.

Libby was most excited however, to dance, once that band started playing. We explained that she had to wait until the three traditional dances took place (bride & groom; bride & father of bride; groom & mother of groom), she was in the front row to watch. Once they were finished, she was a ready to dance, and dance she did, much to the delight of everyone there. She danced with me (Mimi) and with Diddy, she even danced a little with Brentleigh (our niece). I asked her several times throughout the evening, if she wanted to eat or was hungry, to which she replied, “no, not right now, I want to dance”. She is a girl after my own heart. Finally, she did manage to eat a little bit, but I think only so she could have wedding cake. Then it was back on the dance floor where she danced for the first time to SHOUT….she even squatted down when they said, “a little bit softer now…” and she raised her arms too!

After a quick and dark trip out to the end of the walk way to the beach, we were able to convince her that it was time to leave.

When we got back to the hotel, she asked, “Mimi, are your feet talkin to you?”, “Yes, they are”, “What sayin' Mimi”, “They are sayin, I hurt, put me to bed”, “Mine are too Mimi”, and so we did.

The next morning was packing, eating and leaving, in the pouring rain….
Again, a long, long trip back, but not a boring one. Same music, longer naps. While Diddy was napping Libby who was sitting behind him, took great delight in putting her cute little feet up on his shoulders, playing with his hair and tickling his ears with her toes.

On the way home we went by Acworth and picked up Millie (our niece), who came to help me with Matthew. She and Libby had a great time playing Sunday evening and Monday before we made the baby swap with Gigi (she and Papa were keeping Matthew and Commish).

Matthew’s visit was a bit shorter than Libby’s, but oh much fun!

Since he has started working and perfecting his crawl, his naps seem to have gotten a bit longer and he goes to bed a bit earlier too. He works so hard he just gets exhausted.

Millie was a big help (Matthew can be a heavy load and slippery when wet), so it was nice to have reinforcements. I am generally weak and Diddy is still recovering from shoulder surgery. We did a lot playing and even managed to visit with Mema Mabel and Mema and Boobus. Matthew of course was a sweetie pie, always charming and ready to laugh and flash that grin.

Wednesday came too soon and we had to take our precious babies back to mommy and daddy.

Also, we were so busy and having so much fun, we forgot to take photos. The few we did take were on our phones…sorry for the poor quality.
