Changes

Okay, so in the big scheme of things, most of these changes are minor, but in recent months - and up to today- I've made a few changes to the house.

Finally moved the big mirror with hooks from the garage to our foyer (as I planned to do about a year ago when I got the new foyer bench). My Boobus made it for me in college and I have always loved it. I'm so glad to see it so much more often and have friends and family enjoy it now, too!

And if you'll look into the distance of the photo, you'll see a new rug in the library/office/conservatory/living room. I finally found one that works with our look and wasn't outrageous. No sense in spending a ton of cash on a run with two small people and a dog. But I have wanted something in there for some time, so this, I think, fits the bill. You can't really tell from the photos, but it does have some soft blue accents. I thought I might swap it wit the one in the den, but  after I laid it out in there, Libby said it should go in the other room. So hey, it's in the other room.

Today, I took care of a shelving need in the garage since we moved the mirror to the foyer. I wanted to get the soft drinks, beer, bottled water and recycling bin off the floor of the garage so you can get into my car easier on the passenger side. So I found the right shelves yesterday and got to work after church! With some help from Michael and Libby, we now have...

And yes, I now want them higher up across the back wall. But that will have to wait a bit longer.

I also rearranged Matthew's drawers again today, putting his "need to wear now" in the main top drawer and the "some room to grow" in the next one down. That meant getting rid of a few more outfits- sorting them by "to keep" for my cousins' children should they have boys and "to consign/donate." Next, I'll have to actually sort more into more stuff to consign/donate and actually take them to the stores. I keep meaning to check whether the nursery at our church has any needs that we can help out with, or know of a family in need.

Another change is Matthew's eyes: they really do seem to be more hazel now than ever. There are times that they still appear blue, but most of the time, they're hazel.

He's playing around me now and practicing his crawling, standing and drum-playing. And you'll see in the video momentarily that he also is interested in my computer and the Flip video camera sticking out from the side.

I didn't mention in the last post that some of his favorite things are hard blocks and foam blocks that he can gnaw on. He also loves reaching into your mouth, especially at bedtime during his last bottle, and feeling around the back of your teeth, your tongue, etc. Perhaps he'll be a dentist?!

Libby has found some new duties around our house: she folds our cloth napkins when she's up and I'm folding stuff, takes the recycling out to the bin, takes the dirty napkins to the washing machine and does other odd jobs around the house.

On Friday, we had a special movie night at the house after Matthew went to bed. Libby got all ready to go, then we popped popcorn and let her stay up late, late to watch "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" with us for the first time. It was just precious getting to sit down with her and watch her watch a movie for the first time. We haven't really done that in so long and sharing such a classic was awesome. She was so cute with her comments and questions, and of course, she was quite amused by the animals and dwarves, including Dopey. She wants to do it again on Monday night, but I told her perhaps a new one next weekend! We're planning on "Sleeping Beauty!"

Also, she wasn't nearly as afraid of the witch as I apparently was when I saw it the first time. For one thing, I was younger than her- probably around 3 years old and I saw it IN the theater (it was my first theater movie!) Mom had to take me out and wait until it was appropriate for me to come back in again.

I'm hoping we can keep this up for a while. She's showing interest also in "Dumbo," "Pinnochio" and "The Aristocats." We need to add a few more to that list and we'll be Disney-ready. She still doesn't know that we're going, but has now seen the commercials and asked to go some time (several of her classmates went last year and she's seen photos of us with various characters.) She asked mom recently if they were the REAL people, and told me that she wants to go and meet them. Well, plans underway, girlie!

She also went to the pool with Daddy for the longest day of the year last night AFTER dinner! It sounds like they had quite the time together... and she's going with me to a book club friend's farewell party in the neighborhood tonight for burgers and hot dogs and swimming, too. We won't be as late tonight, though.

And that's another one of the changes- Libby's swimming is absolutely taken off! She is swimming, diving, jumping from the steps, board, etc., like crazy. She's diving for toys, putting her face in the water and I just don't have to worry about her. Of course, I still watch her closely, but the change in the last week has been really something to brag about.

I'm so proud of my growing babes!
