Eight Months

My baby boy turned eight months old this week and it seems like each day is just faster and faster.

Matthew is pulling himself up to standing, can feed himself with his fingers (though that's far from fast enough when he's really hungry) and eating just about everything. He enjoyed grilled eggplant, bits of grilled chicken, grilled zucchini and even fresh tomatoes for all "new" things tonight. He also tried tuna, but he doesn't seem to be a huge fan of that. I'll try again, though! Only thing I've found that he doesn't like is avocado and he's not overly enamored of scrambled eggs (which could be a problem, because we eat them a lot here.) It's so exciting that he's now eating some non-blended food already, as long as it's small and soft. He also likes Zaxby's fries, but I'm not sure how he really felt about the refried beans Libby shared with him at Friday night Mexican yesterday.

He's officially down to two naps, and when he goes, he naps hard. Ditto for sleeping at night. But he works so hard for much of the day. He's pulling up, crawling, clapping, says, "Hey," "Mama," "Dada," "Bah-bah..." and lots of other things that we just can't understand yet. But he can be quite emphatic about them. He's a smiley guy and loves being tickled, playing "peek-a-boo" and any excuse to laugh. Like Libby, Mathy Boy enjoys attention and a good time. He's just fun-loving!

Commissioner adores licking him when he's down on the floor and one of his favorite things is trying to climb over the cross-bars that connect the legs of chairs. I can't wait to see his size stats when we go for his nine month appointment in July, and we're getting ready to move him from his infant car seat to the convertible seat in all the cars. I just ordered Libby her booster seat for my car tonight!

He's in size four diapers and wearing twelve month clothes for the most part, though there are a few nine month pieces we can still squeeze him into. I also lowered the mattress height in the crib on Friday. I know the bumpers probably need to go, too, as Matthew keeps trying to get into trouble, but I can't bring myself to do it. Fortunately, the blanket sacks he sleeps in slow him down a bit and do seem to inhibit some movement. I know it's probably only a matter of weeks though until I will need to lower the mattress again to its lowest setting. Hard to believe!

Libby is just as enamored of him as Michael and me. We went for a (hot) walk in the new (used) double jogging stroller today (talk about a work out!) and she enjoyed sitting next to him on the walk and playing with his toes, etc. It was really pretty sweet.

And I'm thinking that when she sees her "big kid" car seat, she's going to be more than happy to give her current car seat to our big guy.

I'll definitely share some photos in the new seat. Here's an old shot of Libby in her new car seat back in August 2010, right before her first beach trip.

And Matthew will go on his first beach trip with us in just a few weeks. It won't be over July Fourth this year, and it won't be with the grandparents. We'll definitely miss them, but we're excited to spend some time with Katie, Matt, Maggie and Lucy - and finally meet Miss Lucy - if only for a few days, at the beach. I can't wait to see my sweet boy in the ocean and sand for the first time!
