I feel like I've used this subject before, but there you are. Whatcha gonna do, but try to slow down a second and appreciate it.
I did get to slow down a bit this week - and last, of course. That's not to say there wasn't much going on, but due to schedules and "not quite as hectic" and adjusting my own expectations, I was able to do a bit more playing and a little less stressing.
Matthew is getting so great at swimming with his puddle jumper. What a funny guy. Like his sister, he's pretty fearless around the water, so I'm thankful he uses the puddle-jumper.
Our little play-by-play man is also putting his pants on by himself (I line them up to get him started and have to help get them straightened out at the end) and trying to bathe himself some, too. "Matthew do it!" is almost as frequent a line as "Carry you."
He's also a big helper. Always wants to help me carry in groceries from the car and unload them, if possible, from the cart onto the conveyor belt at the store. I plan to help him keep up these gentlemanly ways.
Matthew and Libby have also been excellent about cleaning up their messes lately, which is just awesome. I'm also getting better about building in the time to clean up before we move on to other activities when appropriate.
Libby is such a great role model and taking on new practices and challenges every day. She's been awesome at doing her homework all summer, and I am so proud. We've taken on some sight reading this week, too. We kind of slacked off on sight words until now, but she's caught right up this week. And she's read a few sentences in her Junie B. books, and they may be in part from memory, but not all. She gets the biggest smile that she tries to hide when she gets a tough one, and sometimes buries her face. But is is such fun watching her succeed! So maybe all the growing isn't too fast.
She's also getting better and better at riding her bike! She can whip down our street, right around the cul-de-sac and riding back up the incline on our street.
I also shared a classic lunch with the kids today that they loved - crescent roll hot dogs!
Matthew pulled his apart, but he did enjoy it. We also got lunch at our favorite Mexican spot yesterday as a special treat!
Daddy was out of town, so we had to find ways of consoling ourselves.
