Last Friday, the Pearsons met us at our pool for a fun dinner and play gathering. We had fun playing, eating and catching up all while letting the kids set the entertainment agenda. You'll see from the previous post that Libby also spent much of her Saturday with him!
Now, I did also get to have a pedicure and massage last weekend.
On Sunday church didn't quite work out, because Michael and the kids were running late... because of a garbage disposal leak into the cabinet and onto and under the floor and walls in the dining room. They headed off to church while I cleaned up. Just as I went out to my car to get there a few minutes late... the rest of the family was back because the church was standing-room only!
And yes, with the floor drama, we had a heater - in July - and dryers in our house from Monday until Thursday.
We get to go through the new floor process again. Swell. We did get the disposal fixed at least. So people were out every day to check the heaters, and then check out the damage, measure rooms, etc. We're still trying to figure out exactly what we'll be doing about the floors and we have another set of folks coming out tomorrow about the cabinets, so I have no idea of what our timeline for fixing all of this is at this moment. I hope the cabinets happen soon. Not sure about the floors. Definitely not looking forward to that hassle, but we'll get through it! Libby needed a new water horror story. And she was SO excited to show Gigi the water damage to the floor when she came in on Monday morning.
We also had our carpets cleaned on Tuesday- previously scheduled thing - so we just went with it. It was a nutty day, but Libby missed that one.
Because after Michael got home on Monday, Libby went home with Gigi to spend the night with her and Papa and play in the morning. As usual, she booted Papa from his own bed to sleep with Gigi!
On Tuesday morning, Mimi picked her up and they met Ty and Oma AGAIN to go to "Cow Day" at Chick-fil-A.
And later they did slip-and-slide at Oma's!
Dinner included fried okra from Pick-O-Deli and the rest of lunch and Diddy met Libby and Mimi at the pool. Libby told me that he jumped off the diving board three times!
Matthew got to live through the fun (and plenty of work) back at home with me until we went to pick Libby up on Wednesday.
We made it in time to meet Mema & Boobus at Schroeder's for lunch. Then it was back to Mimi's for naps for the kids and more work for me. They woke in time to have a visit to Mema Mabel's, where we joined in the Wednesday hymn-sing. And THEN we went to Harvest Moon for dinner (and of course mini-cupcakes from Honeymoon Bakery after) with Kaitlyn and the Herringtons! Kaitlyn just moved back to Rome and we look forward to seeing more of her again.
We didn't get home until 9:50 p.m.!!! I am pretty sure that's a first for these guys. They actually stayed awake the whole ride home, perhaps because I was singing so loud to keep myself awake, but Matthew seemed quite content to chat away most of the time, too.
On Thursday, Libby had her much-anticipated dentist appointment. She has been asking about it and looking forward to it for months. She received a great report and had no cavities! The dentist told me her two bottom front teeth are beginning to get loose, too. I got teary-eyed when she told me. I've been mentally okay thinking about Kindergarten, but this is a step too far. And I may have gotten a bit verclimpt today walking through the school supply aisle at Target. I already ordered Libby's supplies through the school PTA (though I have NO doubt there will be more on the first day.) But this year it seemed perhaps easier. School is just two weeks away!!!
I also got Matthew a lunch box for when he starts on Aug. 18. I may find a better one, but at least I have a good option if I don't find a cuter one. And Libby and I are going to go shopping for a first day of school outfit tomorrow. Or it may wind up being second day if I want her to wear a "vintage" family dress on the first day. We will see!
Matthew continues to amuse us with his narration of our days. And he's recently added "right now" to many of his 'requests' for us. "Mama, need a snack right now," for instance. He's still pretty good about "please" and "thank you" though so we can't fault him too much. He also is still doing his "Knock, knock" routine. And sometimes he sings about "the back-sum, the back-sum" from the newer Winnie-the-Pooh movie (the "backsoon" is the fictional villain - Christopher Robin leaves a note about being "back soon" and the gang thinks he has been kidnapped by a backsoon (pronounced "back-SUN").
And in other news, last night the Fullers joined us for the Friday night pool party experience. Ansley came with the same swimsuit!
And we all stayed out and up kinda late again! Just around 9 p.m. bedtime now at least. Libby has just started the "Little House" books. First one is "Little House in the Big Woods." We were talking about how books can take you so many places and times and wondered what it would be like to live in a log house that her daddy built for us with no running water, electricity, etc. Libby pointed out that they had candles in addition to the fire in the fireplace for light. "And flashlights too, right?!" I told her no, no batteries either. Her response? "That would be TERRIBLE!"
Soon we'll be off to Mexican for dinner since we didn't get it last night!
But I just got this photo emailed from the Barry Manilow concert from where we smuggled in Libby's beautiful sign. We did not hold it up during the actual show though.
