Fig Newtons and Fun Things

Well, despite the fact that I may have ever-so-slightly overworked the dough, my whole wheat fig newtons, while not beautiful, ARE quite yummy! They have Libby's seal of approval and my own, which is really all I need. Michael doesn't like figs in any form anyway. He did try one though and, I believe described them as "tasting figgy." So, they're a win. And when I came across the recipe, I knew I had to make them due to her incorporation of "The Parent Trap" in her post!

Meanwhile, it was fun to have Libby help spread the filling, but they took some work and planning and in the end, I love just eating the dried figs alone - no "cake" required. So, I'll probably mostly stick with dried figs for a treat. (You know, "A cookie is just a cookie, but Newtons are fruit and cake!") Plus, Libby's equally happy with a jelly bean in the color green, blue or purple. But... even my mom thinks they're good - and she doesn't like Fig Newtons... so perhaps I will make them again.

The "fun things" item refers to more amusing "Libby-isms."

Every day she's saying things that catch us off-guard and/or make us laugh out loud!

One rule: "No ticklin' in da mo'nin.'" Daddy likes to get Libby belly laughing whenever possible, but we've been informed that we're not allowed to tickle her in the mornings. Well, I can understand that. It took me a long time to allow anyone to really have a conversation with me in the morning. My mom, my poor Dad (who usually got the worst!), Michael, Mandy, Katie and any other roommate or person who has been with me for more than one morning in a row, can attest to the fact that it takes me a bit of time to "warm up" in the morning.

Last week, we passed the famed "Big Chicken" on the way to the store. Now, Libby hasn't passed it in a long time, but she was QUICK to point it out the minute it came in sight (I think she has her Daddy's sense of direction- thank goodness!) and went on and on about it! She wants to "climb to da top!" But upon being informed this was not an option, she asked to "eat inside it!" soon. So I guess Libby's going to have her first Kentucky Fried Chicken soon! (Yes, of course she's had fried chicken- just not KFC). She also now uses the adjective "HuMONgous" sometimes. And it's pretty hilarious to us.

In another instance, we were listening to Dean Martin sing, "Sittin' on Top of the World" and Libby pipes up with, "No, on the couch." (Yes, she was sitting on the couch at the time.)

Mimi shared a little story from when she was watching Libby. She put Libby down in her crib from her nap and Libby laid down and said, "Ahh, dat's much bedd'ah." ("That's much better.") What, is she two or 80?!

I can't wait to see what she comes home from school saying soon! We ARE prepping still for her first days. This week's agenda will be a big outing to buy her "rocking school shoes." She has requested "green ones" "from Target." I'm thinking of a kid shoe store instead...

Wish us luck- this seems pretty specific!
